Gomez threw 954 punches in 10 rounds there. If he can get back to that level, Klitschko will be in trouble. They were sharp, fast, accurate punches. Samil Sam is certainly not a huge puncher, but he was hitting Gomez with some solid shots and Gomez wasn't hurt.

You have a well schooled, fast, accurate puncher, who can use his feet. You also have a guy who can take a decent punch or two. If Gomez can get in good condition I think he could pull off an upset against Klitschko. If he's unloading flurries and getting out of there while only taking one shot [albeit a hard one], then he's going to be very tricky to beat.

Given the manner in which Gomez flurries, you get the impression he's more interested in winning a Gold medal without headgear than winning heavyweight championship gold.

He has a lot of the problems that plagued Cuban amateurs who defect and go pro. Their styles are not well-suited for the pros, although Casamayor and Hurtado were able to argue that point with their own professional successes. Still, you can't beat a guy like Wladimir Klitschko, with a telephone pole jab, with shoe-shining.

On that card, he was co-headlining with Joe Mesi and Dominick Guinn. Who would have thought all these years later, it's Gomez who is still around?

Well it's not a ''problem'' that is doing him any harm, as it can be a very effective way to win fights. I think it's very unfair to just label him in that way anyway. He has knocked guys out and knocked guys down. He does have solid enough power when he uses it. If he Throws a ton of shots against Klitschko and manages to avoid those big right hands too often [he will obviously be hit, but he can take a shot or two], he can definitely pull off the win.

It still surprises me that people wern't impressed with him in the Sam fight. He showed a lot of talent, much more so than the others. I just wonder if Klitschko will drag hiself into the ring to fight Gomez though.

In the lighter divisions where there isn't as much power as the heavyweights, yes I think he could get away with it. But we're talking 245 pound heavyweights, and Sanil Sam isn't Wlad Klitschko.

I think if Gomez can fight effectively as an aggressor/counter puncher, maybe his southpaw left hand can get through. I just don't know about his work ethic, he is often lazy and lazy gets you laid out like in the Diaz fight.

I don't hold the Diaz fight against him like some may, but it underlines some of his worst tendencies.
