This Roach is not afraid of the light

Freddy Roach did a wonderful job of getting Pacquiao in with an old De La Hoya, even when more than 7 out of 10 experts thought it was a horrific misatch. He not only believed in his fighter, but he believed in his instinct that Oscar just couldn't pull the trigger anymore. It didn't matter who Oscar brought in to help him train for this fight, his body just doesn't respond like it used to; Freddy saw this opening and took it.

He made his fighter a career payday and, even better, helped him gain even more recognition in the world outside of hardcore boxing fans. Pacquiao, with such an impressive victory over the biggest name in boxing (and, lets face it, De La Hoya is the most recognized boxer and the one who brings in all the casual fans to the PPV world) has now catapulted himself to be a household name among the casual fans.

If his next fight is against Hatton at 140, I would expect his payday to rival this one, especially if the fight is in Manchester, where Ricky's drawing power is at its highest. With a slice of the PPV market, Pac could see upwards of $10 for this fight.

This Roach not only is not afraid of the light, but he sought the limelight for his fighter and it paid off. Congratulations to both on a great fight and thank you for the excitement!

Nice post. So many thought Roach was just trying to cash out with Manny. Looking for a payday etc.

      He is laughing now.

Yes, not enough people gave credit to Roach. And, those that picked Pac were called delusional and blind nuthuggers.

I thought it was a ridiculous match up as well. Roach saw something in DLH during training for Mayweather that rang to be true. Now, I actually believe all the rumors coming out DLH training camp that Calderone, Ortiz, and Valero were giving him the business.

Yes, Roach did well. I hope he's smart and fights Hatton next, before he even thinks about Floyd. Pac should be able to steamroll Hatton, but I think he catches an L with Floyd. I mean, if JMM was able to fight him as well as he did, Floyd will be able to win that extra round to take it on the cards. PBF is just one notch above JMM and that is just enough to beat Pac by decision.

Ortiz for sure he showed us a sim straight left hand in his bout before ODLH and PAC and I think he was landing that in every sparring session probably the shot that blackened the left eye for Oscar. PAC's speed was too much for old Oscar....Lefty

That's a lot of money where Pac is from: ask Nike.
