Do you guys rememeber Pacquiao actually declined this fight at first? It wasn't the money, Pacquiao just didn't want to fight Oscar De La Hoya.
But then behind the business of closed doors, i'm sure DLH's people did what they had to do to get Pacquiao into the ring.
I guess you can say that there was a small subtle of rivalry. I call it bitter business. You all know the story. Promoters vs. promoters, Trainers vs. trainers. It was very subtle but it was there.
Oscar De La Hoya thought that he could still stay in the game by pushing smaller icons around improving his stock and then make big paydays. Unfortunately for him, his plan backfired. The Golden Boy didn't know who he was messin wit. He might have underestimated Pacquiao.
Meanwhile in Hollywood...Freddie Roach knew De La Hoya. He knew his weaknesses. If you watch the fight, Roach was hella juiced. The game plan t they executed couldn't have been done any better.
Vegas gave De La Hoya 3-1 odds. Everyone thought the Golden Boy was gonna kick the ***** out of Pacquiao, everyone was expecting it.
