Ive always felt that a GREAT southpaw has always looked the part in the boxing world and that they DO have an advantage. Southpaws almost always fight orthodox fighters and the old adage "a straight right will kill a southpaw" always SOUNDS good except for the fact that Southpaws are use to using their straight LEFT all the time, it comes naturally as a weapon.
Oscar looked bemused against Pacman and i dont know how many southpaws he has boxed but it didnt look like many. Pacmans straight left just kept hitting him time and again. Its the same with Calzaghe and look at the damage his left did to RJJ.
The great southpaws know no better, and from an early age they have learned to move away from the straight right counter.....so why do people always consider it the way to beat a southpaw - they know its coming!
Pacman, you were awesome and i take my hat off to you, Oscar, it was a bad time in your career to take on a GREAT southpaw!
