ESPN reports that potential Hall of Famer Oscar DeLaHoya went to the hospital with a concussion injury after his loss to Mannie Paquiauo last night. It's unclear if DeLaHoya remains in the hospital at this time.
The 35 year old DeLaHoya was viciously brutalized for 8 rounds before he quit on his stool. ESPNs Teddy Atlas said after the fight that Oscar should immediately retire.
Oscar was a good sport after the loss, telling his former trainer Freddie Roach, "you were right. I am over the hill."
This fight goes to show that Oscar's greatness as a fighter ended many years ago, well before his showing against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. So, it's clear that Mayweather's toughly contested decision win against Oscar was even less impressive than most boxing watchers thought. Pacquiao is clearly the dominant fighter of the decade.
With Oscar probably retired forever, and Floyd unwilling to fight anybody of consequence, real boxers such as Pacquiao and Margarito can bring the sport back from the depths of rank, cynical, commercialism. It's a new era.
