If Hatton fought and beat Pacquiao at Wembley...

...would it be because Pacquiao is a former 106 lber, because Hatton has home advantage or because Pacquiao is past his best?

Depends how the fight would play out.

Can someone close this thread now?

It wouldn't depend on anything. All we know is that certain fighters cannot be allowed any credit. One of them is Hatton, the other is Calzaghe.

No, it depends completely how the fight plays out. I don't particularly like Hatton and I don't think he has enough in his tank to cope with a Pacquaio right now. But if he wins, I'll give him credit.

I don't give Calzaghe credit for thr RJJ fight considering how it played out - RJJ was plainly shot to pieces.

Wait for the fight and see how it plays out, befoe trying to pre-empt excuses from the other side.

RJJ was what it was. A money fight for two guys coming to the end of their career. I'm more thinking of the Hopkins fight. Oh and the Kessler and Lacy fights which all had their silly excuses.

Beating Hopkins in between his two most meaningful wins is apparently beating up an old shot guy...

And we know what the excuses will be.

Hatton should get all the credit in the world.

Because Manny Pacquiao is a better fighter plain and simple.

If Ricky could maul his way to victory and be fast enough to get in close and negate that left hand so be it.

Ricky vs Tszyu would possibly beat Pacman. I'd favour Pacman to light him up though.

Lacy was shown to be overrated and one-dimensional by how the fight played out (and his subsequent career). A top level fighter does not get his ass handed to him like that.

Hopkins isn't shot. But the problem is that he's past him physical prime, during which he would have matched Calzaghe workrate, which lost him the fight. Again, we saw how that played out during the fight as Hopkins faded badly against Calzaghe's work rate. The point is, a younger Hopkins would have been able to sustain it for 12 rounds. That's not a built in excuse, it's what we saw from how the fight played out.

I give Calzaghe credit for Kessler, because the way the fight PLAYED OUT, Kessler was very much a competitive, live opponent.

Yes but you're not a yank. It's the yanks (who make up the majority on here) who produce the most outrageous excuses for fighters they dislike enjoying any success.
