BoxingScene Staff Predictions: De La Hoya vs. Pacquiao

By Rick Reeno - Later tonight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Manny Pacquiao (47-3, 35KOs), with a entire country on his back, will meet Oscar De La Hoya (39-5, 30KOs) at the contracted weight of 147-pounds. Almost everyone has labeled the fight with a "size matters" theme. Pacquiao is a decent underdog in almost every circle outside of the Philippines. He began his career at 106-pounds and has fought as high as 135-pounds, once. He rises by two full weight divisions, making the welterweight leap against a fighter who fought the likes of Felix Sturm and Bernard Hopkins at the middleweight limit of 160. Many, inside and outside of boxing, have called the fight a mismatch due to the size and strenght advantage of De La Hoya. In reality, De La Hoya has little to gain and everything to lose. Pacquiao has already reached rock star status in the Philippines. If he beats De La Hoya, he will become a rock star in every boxing corner of the world. [details]

Damn. My man TK Stewart chose Oscar. Stewart is a guy I respect and I often agree with him, but this time I hope he is wrong!

Mr. Stewart was the only one who made a completely accurate prediction for the Calzaghe-Lacy fight, if I remember correctly.

My pick for Manny is slightly clouded by my dislike for Oscar, and I realize I could be wrong, but so be it! I hope Manny can pull this off, but I wouldn't be surprised by an Oscar win, he is supposed to win.

c'mon guys, if you're really know boxing or study boxing you'll know who will going to win, I am a big fan of this two fighter, I admire pacman coz he has the will and determination, a fighter who does'nt give up, but I don't see him winning this fight, not disrespecting my fellow filipino but he has no boxing skills,no strong defense,a complete one dimensional fighter, if he can't hurt oscar his in big trouble.... OSCAR winning by KO..
