If De La Hoya-Hatton is made it won't be in England

If De La Hoya-Hatton is ever made it will not be at Wembley Stadium. Not that I wouldn't like it to be, but I just know Oscar will not leave the States. The fight IF made, get this here first will be at the MGM Grand. If you have followed the track record of De La Hoya and his partners you know it wont happen. Remember DLH saying he would fight his May 3rd tune-up Azteca Stadium in Mexico or the Staples Center in Cali? Also remember De La Hoyas' business partner B-Hop saying he would love to fight Joe Calzaghe at Yankee Stadium? The fact of the matter is DLH-Hatton will be huge and HBO will probably push for it to happen in the US in order for them to promote it more (like they lured Jones-Calzaghe into US by threating not to make a 24/7 series if the fight was here in the US.) The only thing that would be huge at Wembley would be the atmosphere but money (like always) from HBO and Casinos in Vegas will probably lure the fight over here. Just sharing my thoughts. Let me know what you think.

Wembley would be epic. 2 boxers, 100,000 people....crazy.

I agree completely, but money like always and past incidents makes me believe this fight has little chance of making it to Wembley.

If this fight ever happens England is the only place it will be. I don't think Ricky wants it as bad, he's been talking about wanting Pacquiao to win so they could fight. He also said on BBC the price would have to be right to fight Oscar and he wants it in front of his home fans at Wembley or Millenium.

          Say 100,000 x an average ticket price of £200? = £20,000,000.

          A couple million ppv's at an average price of £20 = £40,000,000

Sponsors and other revenues of income would add up to crazy numbers.

The only thing stopping such huge figures is the economic crisis.

Oscar has already said he wants to fight in the UK.
He knows it would make bank.. both at the door and on ppv.
Imagine a packed Wembley? That's bank right there!!

I think you are wrong in assuming (as is usually the case, true enough) that the money is in States. In the case of a Hatton fight it isn't.

HBO and the Vegas casinos will only spend cash to generate cash, and in this case I don't think they'll put up enough to compete with a Wembley gate and the extra PPVs in the UK as a result of the extra high-profile Wembley would give the fight. To put it in perspective, for the Mayweather fight (at something like four in the morning UK time!) Hatton got over a million PPV buys in the UK alone. For a fight at at more sensible hour (which I think it would be) it would set all PPV records here which would more than make up for any lost US PPV sales and casino receipts.

the first fight will be in the States, but the rematch will be in the UK... that's right I said it THE REMATCH... DLH and Hatton are gonna have their own little trilogy and make millions and millions from it.

Oscar says alot of things. He said he would fight the winner of Cotto-Margarito and alot of other dumb things.

Theres no way in hell that fight would be in sensible UK time, HBO would allow it since alot of Oscars fanbase will pass up on it and they already know regardless of time Hattons fans will buy it.

Actually, I suspect it might well have to be if it was at Wembley or at any outdoor stadium in the UK for legal reasons; I'm not sure they would get permission for a 4am job.

I can only refer you to my previous post; I don't think it's HBO who would be calling the shots. They might even just end up with whatever bones Sky Sports decides to throw them, for the right price. The additional UK and Euro PPVs would simply be worth more than any lost US ones. I'm guessing (admittedly), say, an 11pm GMT start would pull in maybe another half million UK PPV sales. Are there really that many floating potential PPV buyers for the fight in the US?
