I've talked to Filipinos who get mad when you call them "asian".. they say they are pacific islander.
My guess is they don't know what the hell they are then..

the philippines are islands and yes it's in the pacific but that doesn't mean filipinos are pacific islanders. japan , malaysia , indonesia , etc. are islands in the pacific too. you don't see them claiming pacific islanders.

pacific islanders are samoans , tongans , fijians , etc.

philippines is in asia. therefore filipinos are asian.

filipinos are a mix of malay and chinese for the most part.
