My new found respect for De La Hoya.....

Oscar De La Hoya is not my favorite fighter. To be honest he is not even in my fav 5 of boxers. After fighting boxers like Trinidad, Mosley 2x, Vargas, Quartey, Hopkins, Mayweather Jr., Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., etc. So he is 7-4 since 2000. His losses came to Mosley 2x, Hopkins, and Myweather Jr. All of hall of famers. Besides his loss to Hopkins he was in every fight and arguabely won a couple. After his interview on ESPN stating how bad boxing is now because of the numerous belts, divisions, and promotional companies I am impressed. He could be laughing all the way to the bank (he Is) but he is still taking chances for the sake of boxing. Golden Boy Promotions has had the most fighters taking chances in the past 5 years. He bought the ring magazine as you can tell by watching 24/7 on HBO. Oscar and his kids are constantly wearing the RING attire. Since De La Hoya has invested so much in Boxing the sport will be better. You never know maybe in 2010 he will make his own Die hard fans like us on Boxingscene.com will watch most fights because we truly love the sport, But where is the casual fan. What would have been better for the casual fan De La Hoya/Santos or Pacman/Valero. If Pacman loses in a reasnobely close fight he will be bigger than he is. Hard to imagine. Than he fights JMM and JMM makes alot more money. Golden Boy promotes JMM. If De La Hoya blows out or beats Pacman than he fights Hatton for a Mega Fight to a casual fan. Oscar De La Hoya has done more for the sport than any boxer in the last 20 years. Please Discuss....

He has made megafights and been apart of megafights. De La Hoya/Trinidad, De La Hoya/Mayweather, De La Hoya/Hopkins ,De La Hoya/Mosley 2x and Pacman/De La Hoya. Lately he is responsible for fights like Cassamayor/JMM Hopkins/Pavlik, Hopkins/Taylor, Hopkins/Calzaghe, Hopkins/Wright, JMM/Pacman2, Mosley/Cotto, Mosley/Margarito..Mostly big fights against strong opposition. There is alot more to name just not off the top of my head. He saved Ring magazine from going under, He is the face of boxing for the casual fan. He is the Ali of this generation in terms of PR for the sport not skill. Let alone all of the charity this dude gives out.

I can not argue that but there is no shame in facing the best in there prime and barely losing. Trinidad, Mosley 2x, Hopkins, Mayweather Jr. where all Pound for Pound top 3 fighters in ther prime when De La Hoya fought them. He was at a disadvantage vs. Hopkins due to size yet still held his own untill the body punch. Now he is at an advantage with Pacman.

Nobody is denying mega fights, but what has he done outside the ring that makes him so special?

Call for investigations when he loses?

Seriously, I hope DLH goes on to be a great promoter and hold up his word of changing the sport, for the good.

But how does he do that if his PPVs generally suck?

Bottom line, hes in it for the money, which I don't blame him for, but please don't put him in the same breath as the great Ali. Ali stood for his principles.

DLH bows down to the dollar.

His PPV match up between Barrera and Mzonke Fana was a joke. Never even heard of Fana.
