    Paul Williams-VernoPhillips: Post-Fight Report Card

By Cliff Rold - Don’t be fooled by the chatter after the final bell. He may be willing to return to the division right now but for all intents and purposes, Paul Williams (36-1, 27 KO) the Welterweight is probably no more. Over eight punishing rounds, Williams bulled over one of the most consistent tests in the Jr. Middleweight division over the last two decades. In doing so, he found a new home and lined up a title shot. [details]

paul looked like a beast on saterday, the way he was going to the body and fighting on the inside with the smaller verno who himself is an excelent inside fighter. i think 154 is perfect for paul, only prob is that the big money fights are a 147 and 160. i think paul always looked really flat at 147 but at 154 he was big and ripped, if he could put on just a lil more meat he could be a very good mw depending on what happens when he eats a few bombs from a legit mw/jmw puncher. i dont think a 147 can really hurt him, hes just to big of a guy, maybe citron but even margs wasnt shaking paul with his punches and we all know what margs did to cirton, twice

The prospect of Williams at 154 is rather exciting to me. I dont see as many fighters avoiding him at this weight.

Big names might squirrel away a while longer, but the division has enough good names to give him fights.
