Professional boxing needs to have same day weigh-ins, like they used to.

Williams gains about 20-25 lb between the weigh-in and the fight. He's at a super-middleweight weight for his welterweight fights.

    This is not fair.

He doesn't gain 25 lbs in one day... and even if he does a proper conditioned fighter will use that against him.

I will let you something that is a good life lesson... life isn't fair. You deal with the cards that are dealt and you make the most of it...

Lou DiBella has gone on the record and said he will never match Berto against Williams because of the size difference.

Williams needs to stop fighting little guys and move up to fight men his own size!

I'm caught on this one. On the whole I think if a guy makes weight, he makes weight. Being so tall has it's advantages sure. But it can some with some dis advantages sometimes especially if a fighter adapts well.

Not that it's to the same extent, but look at Hatton versus Malignaggi. Paulie was significantly taller, with a way longer reach and Hatton of all people managed to avoid his long arms on the whole. With ok movement for one, and a good range, getting on the inside and working on that huge body, which is a nice big target.

Hopkins was clever with Pavliks reach and power, because he kept to one side and at such a range, that Pavlik couldn't hit Hopkins as he was to the side of him, and at a range whereby he'd have to pull his long arms back and load up.

I won't even get started on Valuev, Ruiz again of all people, with that huge height and reach dis advantage still made it competitive.

Height is a mixed bag or pro's and con's. Weight is too, but I do think that should be stricter as there's too many guys coming in way heavier on fight night that it makes a mockery of, and undermines the system, that is there to protect boxers.

Yea man, its always been like that in boxing. The shorter guys have the quick, crisp punches that can hurt u from short distance, or inside fighting, and the tall fighters keep their distance and try to control the fight. Tunney just looks at the reach, "82" he has no business being there. Why not tunney tell me please. Should he be fighting at HW since he has a bigger reach than Wlad? Does he have a bigger body structure than Wlad?

who cares??? he makes the weight and the quintana loss showed good boxing skills can overcome physical disadvantages.......

boxing isnt all about reach and size, if it was the bigger man would always win, and thats not the case

Did I forget something weren't williams last two fights above welter weight, Its not like he,s calling out cotto or berto, he,s calling out the biggest welter weight out there in margarito,
if you want williams to stay above welter weight then so should margarito, hearns fought at welter weight and was tko,d by a smaller sugar ray, so height doesnt always matter.

Which one of those situations would seem the strangest in height difference?

Paul Williams is as tall as Pavlik, if not taller. Until I see him perform well with an elite thats about the same size, I dont see the point in hyping him up too much.
Ok buddy after all of these you've typed...When has boxing ever been divided up by height classes?

I swear whats the big deal anyways about a tall fighter now-a-days...its not like he fighting tall anyways...When Williams lost to Quintana...I didnt hear any of this **** he's getting now-a-days.
