Why De La Hoya is so popular??

Hi guys,I'm asking you this question because I know that some guys on this site are real boxing encyclopedia,I started watching 2 years ago and now I can't stop looking fight.I was always wondering, why de la hoya is so popular,he's the richest boxer and he always earns a lot of money after every fight, what makes him more popular than miguel cotto, calzague, pacquiao or margarito??Thanks to tell me the reason guys.

Also,if someone can explain me why HBO are showing their fight for free on TSN for the last 2 weeks?I saw hatton vs malignaggi and taylor vs lacy, are they showing fight since a long time or it's just to promote HBO??

DLH used to be the **** when he was younger. Dude fought everybody and always made for excitin fights. He's still popular now based on what he was BITD.

Because he's made a career of fighting in massive fights that other boxers shy away from.

In an era where the big fights never seem to get made, he makes them.

          good looks, charisma, intelligence

he's the polar opposite of the stereotypical view of a boxer

also he's a great fighter and has been involved in some great fights

Because he won a gold medal and he have fought, the best fighters from 130 to 160 since he came into boxing, he have not refused to fight anyone.Everytime he steped up to a division he has fought the toughest available fighter in that division. Plus the guy is a good bussinnes man and knows how to be marketable!!!

he fights the best, probably that simple he has lost to alot of great fighters so i suppose you could say is he really worthy of being called an ATg but his willingness to take on all comers is refreshing. he may only do it for the money and recognition but he deserves credit for pushing himself and testing himslef against the best, even if he did sometimes come up short.

He grew up poor in east la as the son of immigrants, he promised his dying mother a gold medal which he won, always fought the best, is a well mannered intelligent business man and isnt some loudmouth trash talker looking for attention.
