When I look at this fight between Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya I have a range of mixed feelings. Initially, the first feeling that I get is that Manny is just too darn small to fight this guy. I shake my head and wonder if his speed will be enough? I wonder if coach Roach has it right, will Manny's speed be enough to counter the size and strength of De La Hoya? So then I start thinking more into it. Pacquiao IS extremely fast, and he DOES hit much harder than your typical fighter at that weight, so will that be enough?
If Manny fights the perfect fight and pulls off the upset, of course his stock rises even higher than it already has. A win sends him through the stratosphere and Hell, he may even get some real estate on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
So what if he loses? Many feel that's exactly what is going to happen. So, what does a loss mean to Manny Pacquiao the person, and to Manny Pacquiao's career? The answer is, Manny the person doesn't change at all. He will still be the same humble, kind, and giving Manny Pacquiao. The career of Manny Pacquiao won't be hurt either, in fact, he still in my opinion marches full steam ahead towards either a Ricky Hatton, or a Floyd Mayweather Jr fight.
This fight is a win win situation for Manny Pacquiao. The only risk in my opinion is Manny getting hurt by Oscar if indeed Oscar does land one of those hooks on him. But, if Pacman can get through this fight injury free, then he cruises on with a fat pay check, and he gets those huge fights against Hatton, and Mayweather anyway.
Personally, I think Nate Campbell has earned a crack at Pacquiao as well. Everybody was talking about Juan Diaz and Pacquiao for awhile there, so what happened? Nate buzzed through Diaz, and now nobody is talking about Campbell vs Pacquiao. I guess it's all about what sells tickets, and the powers that be just don't see a Campbell vs Pacquiao doing very well in the PPV buys. Truly a shame, because that would be a great fight, and Campbell is a true champion, who deserves the fight.
Ricky Hatton vs Manny Pacquiao in England, or heck, why not The Philippines? That fight of course does well no mater where you stage it. Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Manny Pacquiao in Vegas would of course do very well. I doubt Pretty Boy Floyd hops a plane to Manila so you Paclanders shouldn't get too excited about that possibility.
So you see, Manny wins no matter what the outcome is of his next fight. A win would be great for Manny, and a loss doesn't drop his stock an inch.
They say that big things come in small packages. That's certainly the case in Manny Pacquiao, and win, lose, or draw, the warrior from General Santos City wins.
