The purpose of this thread
A) Mayweather is actually the smaller man than Hatton
B) Mayweather does not get enough credit for beating Hatton
C) Weight Issue should not be an excuse why he lost to Floyd
Reasons
A) Hatton’s first appearance at WW his fight night weight was 158 against Collazo. Mayweather weight at fight night against Judah was 146 and against baldomir @149. This would mean that Hatton would have outweighed Floyd in their fight. Meaning that you can’t say Mayweather was the bigger guy when he beat Hatton.
B) This one is quite simple. Mayweather started at 130 and Hatton started at 140. Yet Hatton is the smaller man. That does not make any sense at all. Mayweather went from 135 to 147 in a space of 4 years. Hatton had only move up 7 pounds which he has previously done with success.
C) Hatton has MANY more fights at 140+ than mayweather does. Ricky Hatton walks around at 30 pounds higher than PBF. Floyd has never weighed 154 in his life. Ricky weighed more for the Castillo fight than PBF weighed for the ODLH fight.
D) Floyd only weighed 150 once for the ODLH fight, and actually was 148 on fight night. That's the heaviest of his career.
E) Hatton only at Jr WW comes into the ring at 156 lbs. Mayweather at Jr WW weighs around 143 I think. (Can’t confirm this one) Need tale of the tape for 140 fights
Rebuttal
A) Mayweather is more muscular than Hatton. Hatton is actually quite ripped which is unnoticed due to his very pale skin. The larger body would mean it harder for Mayweather to KO his ass. He needs to get credit for his KO win with his brittle hands.
B) Mayweather has a great reach advantage. This would be cancelled out by Hatton’s weight advantage.
C) Mayweather cheated. This was not cheating. It’s called a tactic. Hatton is strong on the inside. Mayweather strategy was when they fought on the inside, start to holds Hatton arms which forces Cortez to break it up. Also when they did fight on the inside Mayweather was winning.
D) Hatton is not good at WW. People ignore this was his second fight at WW and he won a title at WW. He should have known his strengthens and weakness fighting at 147.
E) Why was the fight at WW. Team Hatton wanted the fight at WW. The reason was if he had lost to Mayweather he would still be King at Jr WW. Mayweather has more at stake than Hatton.
F) Hatton is shorter than Mayweather by a lot.
The height difference is minimal.
Conclusion.
Yes the fight was not at 140. But would it really made a difference??? Mayweather is faster and stronger at 140. Hatton would still outweighed Mayweather at 140. Mayweather is naturally the smaller man. Coming from 130 to 147. While Ricky had only to move up 7 pounds which he had done already. Mayweather doesn’t get credit since it was at WW. Still today Mayweather only man ever to knock out Ricky. The thing that makes fight better is that Mayweather started at the lower weight and was outweighed by Ricky come fight night. Yet he beat him on the inside and still KO’d him. Hatton was in the top 5 P4P when they fought. Mayweather should get a lot more credit for beating a P4P fighter who outweighed him and still managed to KO him.

Mayweather is naturally bigger. He has an overal bigger frame than Hatton does and longer limbs.
Just because Hatton weighs more when he walks around doesn't mean he is bigger.
I weigh 175lbs and my upper body is about the size of a Light WW. I'm really small for my weight.Comment
