Yes, I think Calzaghe could beat Ruiz. Back when Joe had good hands he could have hurt Ruiz enough to make him cautious, but nowadays, with smashed up hands, I doubt he'd hurt him. However, Joe is a smarter fighter now, so it balances out. Joe's movement is too good for Ruiz. Ruiz is too slow to catch Joe clean. Joe uses his superior boxing skills to stay out of danger and wins a UD.

I think in his prime Joe might have defeated John Ruiz.

But not a powerful, skilled world-class heavyweight like Wladimir or Vitali.

Exactly what I'm saying, it would mess up his style of fighting due to the added wieght.

oh please!! Joe can never beat Ruiz. first off, Jones was way talented than Joe in his prime. Jones speed was still there. Joe will lose speed at 185 imagine at 190+

letme put to you this way: if a shot Jones and 43yrold Hopkins dropped Joe, Ruiz will probably do the same and take Joes shots.

please lets not be ridiculous here.

Back when Roy did it, no, simple as, but you know, if they thought tomorrow and Calzone got a decision, I wouldn’t be suprised, John has fallen hard in recent years...

Hopkins and Jones dropped Joe with flash KD's because they threw very fast shots that Joe didn't see coming. Joe wasn't even hurt -- this is very clear to see for anyone with eyes. You will get nowhere near the same speed out of Ruiz, he is far slower and you can see his punches coming from 50 miles away.

Jones was caught with a couple of shots from Ruiz and didn't go down, and I believe Joe has a far superior punch resistance than Jones, so what makes you think Ruiz would drop Joe with his slow punches? Even if he did, I see Joe getting off the canvas and carrying on as though nothing happened, exactly like he did in the Jones, Hopkins, and Mitchell fights.

Ruiz wouldn't even be a problem for Calzaghe. If this fantasy matchup happened I'd put money on Joe winning.

Bottom line: Ruiz is too slow for Joe.
