The De La Hoya shoulder injury is real.

And it makes a lot of sense.

here is an article after the Mayorga fight:
LAS VEGAS — Oscar De La Hoya has targeted Sept. 16 as the date for a possible farewell fight, but medical problems could make it difficult for him to return to the ring that soon.

I remember when my cousin asked De La Hoya, "how's the shoulder doing?"
at the Mayweather v. De La Hoya press conference De La Hoya looked at him funny and didn't say anything. What was weird is that he had been smiling before and everything.

I don't it will effect him much in the fight but I believe this is what Roach is talking about when he says he knows "why Oscar stopped jabbing in the fight and why he can no longer pull the trigger"
Oscar's best hand is the left and without a healthy left hand it gives Roach hope. He did after all.. look horrible against Stevie Forbes and completely abandoned the jab in the Mayweather fight.

Like I said though, It shouldn't be too much of an issue nore should it be an excuse.. why? because Oscar already has every other advantage vs Pacquiao. It'd be leveling things a little more.

Place your bets on Pac, then Delahoya will Promote Hatton v. Pac. Sealed deal.

then pac should destroy that shoulder even more by punching it out of the socket, so Oscar is a one armed fighter to make the fight more fair.
