DLH v Pac Man - It will be alot closer than quite a few think.

So personally I don't follow boxing as close as some but I know one thing.

Bookmakers aren't in the habit of giving the punters good odds and if they do give out good odds they will shorten the ****ers right up come fight night. And unlike peoples opinions on the net, book makers live on their opinions and if their opinion is slightly wrong it might just them alot of money.

So when it comes to possible outcomes in sports events - in this case boxing - I would take the colletive bookers opinion on the out comes, rather than the colletive opinion of boxing fans who talk about boxing on internet forums ... what does this have to do with the De La Hoya v Pacquaio fight?

De la Hoya is pegged as minus 185 favorite to frustrate Pacquiao, while the fire-breathing Filipino fighter is at plus 155 to defeat the Golden Boy of boxing.

Meaning, a $185 exposure on De la Hoya would net only $100.

While a $100 bet on Pacquiao rakes in $155 if the Pacman wins the fight.

The odds, however, are expected to somehow level off a few days before the fight, although De la Hoya is expected to be the favorite up until fight time. Pacquiao had been previously quoted as saying he would rather be branded as an underdog, as this only motivates him to beat De la Hoya.

Several instances in the past, Pacquiao had been an underdog, especially in the fight with Lehlo Ledwaba, as well as the first Eric Morales match and the first Barrera showdown. And as for the size difference it's exggerated, just look at these 2 picks - 1 of them features on this forum by a 'certain' poster ...

    AND

Yes De La Hoya is bigger but it's over exggerated IMO.

Also compared to previous fights it isn't as one sided as many think.

Based on the trend, the welterweight bout between Pacquiao, who is going up in weight for a second consecutive match, and the naturally bigger de la Hoya appears to be a lot more even that some of the recent major boxing cards.

According to the Las Vegas Sun, Juan Manuel Marquez was a 3-1 favorite versus Joel Casamayor, Ricky Hatton a 5-2 favorite versus Paulie Malignaggi, Kelly Pavlik a 4-1 favorite against Bernard Hopkins and Shane Mosley a staggering 8-1 favorite against Ricardo Mayorga.
If those people who still think this is a one sided and Oscar will walk this fight, go put some money on Oscar - in fact mortgage your house, sell your car and go pawn everthing else and the TV seeing as you won't be watching the fight seeing as it's **** ...

I think you are right. Plus there's also a reason for why Pacquiao is P4P #1.
