People underrate Taylor's resume before Hopkins...

Usually people say that he didn't really fight anyone good before his bouts with Hopkins, but I can pick out three names that are good wins for a fighter to have before they fight a single championship round.

Alex Bunema has become a bigger name recently, when he stopped Karmazin... he did look terrible against Martinez though. Even so, not a bad win.

Raul Marquez was a pretty good fighter, Olympian, who had only really lost to elite fighters up to that point. Taylor was the first to break that streak.

William Joppy was past it, but he was a former middleweight champion, who held a win over another good middleweight, Howard Eastman.

Now, obviously none of these three wins would be really acceptable for a middleweight champion to point to as a good defense of their title, but... those three names aren't too bad for a prospect turning contender, right?

It's not bad considering what Marquez and Bunema went on to do but it's nothing spectacular.

It's a hell of a lot better than most other heralded amateurs (particularly Olympians) who get a title shot handed to them in 20 fights...

      I'll take Taylor's pre-championship resume over Mayweather's any day.

Taylor's resume prior to winning a championship is better than Mayweather's but he had 6 more fights, Mayweather's resume at 23-0 is arguably better than Taylor's.

          Haha, of course it is.

Genaro Hernandez and Angel Manfredy are P4P better than the versions of Joppy, Marquez and Bunema that Taylor fought... easily in Hernandez's case.

I agree with you bro. I dunno, it just seems like Jermain gets harshly dealt with on these boards full stop in my eyes.

Yeah, those guys were good fighters, especially Hernandez.

                Here's the weirdest part.

I was willing to give Taylor break after break after break while he was still undefeated. I was willing to overlook three controversial decisions against great fighter in Hopkins and Wright, and then overlooking performances that Talyor should not have been proud of against 154 pounders in Ouma and Spinks... That was while the board was just flaming him to death.

But then, the board's opinion turned around with the heart of Jermain Taylor in his KO loss to Pavlik.

I, on the other hand, lost faith, because I thought that this was going to be the fight that justified the faith I had in him. Pavlik's style really is Taylor (LOL) made for Jermain, and he lost.

The second one got me back on the same page as the board. I think there is a lot of future promise and potential for Bad Intentions.

Yeah I really like Taylor, both as a guy outside of the ring and I enjoy the way he fights. I have always been a fan of guys with great jabs and when JT gets his going it is great to watch. I certainly think he can be an elite fighter over the next few years at 168.

don't forget Daniel Edouard, Sam Hill and Grady Brewer all of whom had at least 1 notable name on their records when Taylor fought them. Taylor has a VERY good resume and IMO against Pavlik he just tried to DRILL a nail using a hammer u feel me he brought the wrong tools to the job site. much like Mayorga and Forrest I think if Taylor fights Pavlik he would win like if Forrest fought Mayorga he would win too. Pavlik has been exposed already as a 1 dimensional fighter but it would still be good for Taylor to beat Pavlik and redeem himself. by doing so he will have at least 1 win over every man he's faced in the ring and that's a confidence booster especially after beating Lacy so decisively, a fight that I had scored 120-108 for Taylor..
