Ivan Calderon Talks about De La Hoya Sparring Session

Last week, trainer Freddie Roach spoke about a sparring session that took place last year between Ivan Calderon, then the WBO champion at 105-pounds, and Oscar De La Hoya. Roach, who was training De La Hoya at the time, brought in Calderon to prepare Oscar for the speed of Floyd Mayweather Jr. Roach, in his Ring Magazine blog, said Calderon boxed De La Hoya's ears off and made the much bigger fighter look silly by missing most of his punches. Based on the Calderon sparring session, Roach is confident that De La Hoya will have a lot of trouble when he faces Manny Pacquiao on December 6. [details]

Calderon has it exactly right. Their styles are not very similiar, and other factors may have been weighing on DLH (timing wasn't there, didn't want to injure Calderon who couldn't injure him). It doesn't mean much in relation to the upcoming bout.

Calderon has too much class, thing that Roach lacks.

Ivan knows not to get involved in this back and forth bull****. He gave the best answer he could give, I would have done the same too.
Shame on Roach for dragging Calderon into something he more then likely wants no part of or wants no business in. Putting him on the spot like that and ****.

I bet that was a publicity thing. I bet they where saying that just to give people the hope that even though Pacquiao is so small he have a chance!!!!! Ivan made roach look ******.In the other hand, everybody is bashing roach, but I bet DLH have something to do with the hole comment thing. Rverybody is forgetting that roach and Oscar are good friends. This is just to try to sell the fight more!!!!

Lol I agree, its all business between Roach and ODLH, Calderon is a usable bystander; whether he intended to be or not.
