    calzaghe vs dawson/johnson

i dont think theres been a poll about joes possible future opponent, but i thought it would be interesting to see what most people think.

im a fan of calzaghe, i understand why he would want to retire if the hunger not there and the drives not there then its best to get out. but im a boxing fan first and foremost and would love to see joe in the ring again, my question is who do you think he should take on if he does decide to return. it looks as though there are 2 options out there for the guy:

CHAD DAWSON - a win over him would allow zaghe to confirm his status as the number 1 light heavy, he would also have cut the SMW and LHW divisions off at the knees. hes a pretty credible opponent with good (if controversial) wins over some solid competition. however he is stylistically not a good fight for joe, whats more what if he does defat him. will we hear the "naaah chad dawson was always overrated anyway" like we did with lacey and pavlik.

GLEN JOHNSON - joe might feel as though he has unfinished buisness with johnson like he did with hopkins and RJJ, they have signed to fight before but it never came off. stylistically johnson is an easier opponent and he would allow joe to show his counterpunching skills as well. a win over him however would come under scrutiny ppl would say that the last 3 opponents joe has faced were all approaching 40 and over the hill. despite his age johnson is a hungry fighter someone who has never recieved the recognition he deserves and that alone makes him dangerous.

personally i would love to see the fight with johson - 2 guys with championship hearts, 2 warriors in the ring, both tough, seasoned and noth throw plenty of leather. however that said id very happily settle for a win over dawson!

I think if it's either of the two it will be Johnson. First... I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him fight Johnson then if he wins (he would retire if he lost) Dawson as a finale.

Most people picking fights for Joe pick em based on who can Joe beat rather than who could beat Joe (like in the case of a real champion, who can beat him is the question, not who can he beat) which makes these threads funny. When compared to Calzaghe most people say Hatton's behind, yet he's faced much better competition (specially lately) and has more wins, ko's, ko %... Same with Lewis and i'm keeping to British fighters only! I just don't get it. Is it because he never lost? Last see Calzaghe's biggest wins vs Hatton's: over 40 year olds Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones (who's even more washed up than Bernard who can still fight but not for 12 rounds and can't hurt him, clever... Joe Calzaghe). That is it! Ricky Hatton has: prime Tszu in which he was an underdog and yes, in comparison to Bernard or Jones Tszu was in his prime! Name and yes shot Castillo, Paulie Mallignaggi, a legit champion who had only lost once, to Cotto, Lazcano, Collazo, Urango (undefeated green but strong guy). I think this is better than Calzaghe did and if you mention Lewis well, it's not even a contest. Fighting much younger, undefeated Vitali Klistschko at 38 years of age as a goodbye fight and winning alone >>>>>>>> Calzaghe's career times 2! If you mention Tyson, Hollyfield, Tommy Morrison, Mercer, Galotta, Tua, Rahman, McCall, Briggs then as i said it's not even a contest who history will hold higher.
