People Seem to Forget: Cotto vs. Malignaggi

Some of you are throwing the TKO around as if Malignaggi was brutally demolished by Hatton. Hatton looked new and improved, but his performance against Paulie does not speak world dominance as some of you are indicating. That was not an impressive TKO. It was a UD that never went to the scorecards. Buddy stopped the fight and Paulie was not hurt. Cotto had Paulie hurt many more times and dominated him in a more impressive fashion. This is not to discredit Hatton's win, but some of you seem to forget what Cotto did to Paulie....if anything, that fight should have been stopped.

I don't think either performance was clearly better than the other. Malignaggi could have finished the Hatton fight, but he wasn't allowed to. I don't disagree with McGirt's decision to stop it though.

I think Cotto physically beat up Paulie a bit more than Hatton did, but Hatton completely took Malignaggi out of that fight mentally. Paulie looked like he checked out halfway through that fight. I had Hatton winning in a shutout, where I gave him a few rounds against Cotto. Both guys hurt Paul on two occasions.

I don't think it's fair to say that Hatton wasn't impressive.

        I'm guessing you're Puerto Ricoan?

So you're bound to say Cotto's performance against Paulie was better then Hatton's against Paulie aren't ya?

        Thanks.

I'd say for a "slick boxer" to be totally out boxed is worse than being brutally KO by a slugger.

Ricky beat him in every department after the first round, he out fought him, out jabbed him, out moved him and most importantly outboxed him.

I didnt say that Hatton wasnt impressive... he was. And your right, he took Paulie out of his game plan and surprised Paulie by manifesting the atypical side of Hatton that we have not seen since the Kostya fight. That said, the Hatton TKO does not speak louder than Cotto's UD.

Go and find those 'thoughts'. I'm not even a fan of Hatton.

                Thanks.

Yeah, I agree. Malignaggi may have won a couple more rounds against Cotto, but he also, self-admittedly, paid for it a bit more.
