I think a lot of these are bull****.
I think lockett was actually rated so Pavlik had to fight him.
I think we can still count Calzaghe vs. Hopkins instead of Jones Jr.
Hatton over Paulie is still on since Paulie held a title that was stripped
Timothy Bradley SD 12 Junior Witter stays
Any others?
Haye vs. Cunningham had it happened would have helped.Comment

UK Vs USA? Didn't the War Of Independence end in something like 1783?
I'm all for rivalry, but these sort of threads are overrun with Xenophobia.Comment

Who cares what the "score" is?
I think the point to come out of this is that us Brits have proved we can fight and certain Yanks need to show some respect.
It also shows how far American boxing has fallen that you're worried about competition from us. We're 1/5 the size and boxing isnt even a big sport over here.Comment

Well cleary... these rivalries are ****** anyway, because things like Pavlik vs. Lockett sneak in.Who cares what the "score" is?

Hatton has a good deal of respect from me.
Calzaghe has all the respect I can give him.Comment

Boxing is not much over here anymore either. I was watching a documentary on Post World War II cities and culture and it talked about boxing briefly: how there was basically a boxing gym every couple of blocks prior to the War, but after, less and less. Even now, you have to go searching for them using GPS and even then; hard to find them.Who cares what the "score" is?

Back to the documentary: the point is the economy boomed, men that served had the G.I. Bill to pay for college so there were more choices.
Also, and this is not part of the documentary but opportunity: opportunity is favored in others sports like Football, basketball, baseball, etc. Sports where you can go to college.
Size is a bit overrated; it's about the culture of kids embracing it enough to go into it. That's why ancient Sparta had more quality soldiers than other lands. That's why Alexander the Great was able to conquer with his professional Macedonian army.
It's why the USA has produced more Champions than India, China, and Russia as far as boxing goes.
The British re-introduced boxing so it's not like they were behind.
More Americans have become interested in MMA competition.
Britain: 58,000,000 as of 2006 from the reliable Wiki
USA: 305,722,000
Will have to break down the numbers: how many title holders do the British have and how many do the Americans {USA} have? Big 3: WBC, IBF, WBA...and we'll count Ring and possibly WBO.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 11-23-2008, 04:23 PM.Comment
