Why did Michael Spinks retire after the Tyson fight?

I mean sure he got knocked out, but it didnt appear to be anything that was permenantly damaging. In fact its better to get ko'd by one punch then get a 12 round beat down. He was relatively young and had only 32 pro fights... Anyone???

He got pay big time, Him and tyson waited for the fight to get hyped up and then they both cashed in.

He had already accomplished everything and cashed in against Tyson.

Smart move, Spinks admitted that he was only in it for the money.

That's right. I might add that if my memory serves me correctly Spinks also had problems with his knee which likely contributed to him calling it a day.

Yup. Only two reasons to do it, either you want to or you need the money. If neither apply, time to hang up the gloves. I think in Spinks case he was also honest enough with himself to admit he couldn't beat Tyson if they fought again, which didn't leave him anywhere to go.

I remember reading that Spinks did consider coming back as a cruiserweight, but decided against it.

Spinks is a true ATG, no matter how many younger fans only remember him getting destroyed by Mike Tyson.

              Unstoppable at light heavyweight.
And 13 million for 90 seconds plus training camp ain't a bad way to go out.

Because there was no point to go on. Tyson was the new King and Spinks could never beat him; he had to retire.

                  cause he quit against Tyson.
he walked into the ring wearing kneepads.
He had no heart or desire to be a champion.
