    DAVID HAYE - the aftermath

too often posters come on these boards straight after a fighter has done really well and claim that hes the next big thing blah blah blah, talk like that is premature. heres my breakdown of the fight and haye's options.

i watched the fight again the other day and haye looked really good - relaxed, confident and at ease but at the same time brimming with power. it looked as though he could have had his man out of there at any time he wanted.

i liked his approach to his weight beforehand as well - alot of ppl including myself were surpsied that he only weigh at 215 i expected him to come in at 220 at least. haye said that he could go into a gym and come out 2 stone heavier very easily but he wasn't bothered about his weight as long as he trained properly. it showed as well haye seemed to have that same zip and quickness that he had at cruiser.

as for the fight i think david was looking for the one punch KO that was never going to come, it was only when he put his punches togther that barrett was counted out. but having said that haye was only catching barrett with sinlgle shots or glancing shots and still had him down a few times.

but for all his power and KO ability the fight didn't actually answer all the questions:
    - can david still take a HW punch; he said aferwards that a HW jab was like a CW right hand, what will he do when someone does tag him?
    - davids left hand is still always very low, yes he is quick and has good reflexes but it would only take one shot and he could be in trouble

imo davids need a few more fights before he takes on the klitchsko's. david should rememeber that the last time he was this eager to take on an older champ it didn't end well, haye often says that he wasn't ready mentally or physcially for the carl thompson fight. i think we could say that he isn't mentally or physically in the right state to take on either of the klitchsko's.

haye should look to fight a clever fighter or someone who is stylistically difficult for him. imo the winner of toney/thompson would be perfect, toney is clever and smart and would force david to think about his punches, thompson is a big HW, southpaw and with a good jab. both fighters would push david hard and force him to use more than just his power, after that dimitrenko would be a good fight, he is simlar to the klitchsko's and would allow haye to figure out how he might take on vlad/vitali.

    your thoughts?

I agree 100% especially about Haye not being ready for the Klitschko's right now. I don't think he'll ever be able to beat Vitali but I do think he has a good chance at blitzing Wladimir early and taking him out.

I still really worry about his chin and defense.

He's not ready for Vitali or even Wlad, I dont think he is good enough not to get hit.

i reckon haye has a better chance of defeating vladimir as well, haye has said in the past that he prefers fighters who are taller than him as it allows him to see their chin and target it.

vladimir chin is one of if not the reason i think that haye could take him out. however having said that haye often has his own left hand very low and it might just be a matter of who gets hit first.

i wouldn't say that david wont ever have it in him to beat vitali but at the minute i dont think he has it in him.

i agree with you, and haye said that if the klitchskos want a fight in summer 09, haye will have a fight i february/march first. Hopefully it will show us whether he can take a punch from a heavyweight.

yeah that could work, but what if he loses once in this road? His chance for the big money fight would vanish, especially if he gets KOed
