im not deemining your opinion but i think it would be pointless.... if toney had a belt id agree 100%... but hopkins wouldnt gain anything by beating toney... yeah he beat a heavyweight... but he didnt even beat a champ....
if evander wins.... bernard should go for that... i think bernard could put on some decent size

James Toney is a shot fighter, all that weight he put on got the best of him. He should just retire. Hopkins should fight Dawson or just call it a day and retire...or fight Holyfield.

I don't think a belt matters when you have 2 of the best fighters of our generation in a farewell match. You think Jones Jr./Ruiz as a fight itself minus the belts/history made more sense?

Maybe you didn't see him in his last fight against Rahman he was hitting him at will before the stoppage. And we'll see how good he does against Thompson in a few weeks. Win or lose I think Hopkins/Toney still makes sense.

Obviously it would be an incredibly interesting fight given that these two guys are two of the best ring technicians of the modern era.

IMO there are so many intangibles in this fight that it is almost impossible to accurately predict or even suppose a possible outcome. Obviously Toney looked a lot better in there than most expected against Rahman until the stoppage but we still don't exactly know how much that was due to Rahman being a shot fighter or James still having it.

The key factors for me would be the weight each came in at and how they would deal with it. If James comes in out of shape against an in shape Bernard at 190 odd pounds then I would say I significantly favour BHop. That being said if James comes in in shape then I think he is capable of hanging with the majority of guys at HW, and that would include Bernard.

I'm not sure how exciting the fight would be. When two masterful technicians who are both extremely hard to hit and hurt get in the ring together it is often a cagey chess match with little open action.

If my life was on the line and I had to pick a winner for the fight it would probably be Bernard as I know for a fact he is going to come in in great shape and give himself the best possible chance to get it done. As we know, the same cannot be said for James.

            2 option poll, great.

I think a different weight fight, and especially a belt in another division could actually be a real good ending to his career.

But HW, I'm not so sure he has the frame. It'd take him months to do it right, and their months he doesn't have. Especially when he says he wants to fight no later then march.

Neither of these guys is stopping the other anyway I don't think.

the only stoppage Toney has @ HW is Holyfield, and that was TKO by throwing in towel. If anyone gets knocked down I believe is Hopkins from first time getting hit by HW.

There's just not much out there for Bernard other than Dawson. And even then I doubt he wants to take on Dawson because there's not much money in it. If David Haye were still at Cruiser I would love to see that fight.
