its close in my opinion between margarito and hopkins...

margarito for winning a huge fight against cotto and becoming the current legit champ at 147...

    and

hopkins for doing the unthinkable by beating THEE prime middleweight champion...dispite the calzaghe loss...the win over pavlik was HUGE.

wasnt one of those wins against a very OLD and out of their prime trinidad?

calzaghe beat two GREAT GREAT GREAT fighters but he beat them FAR from their prime and that MUST be taken into consideration.

Pac has 2 big title fight wins, but 1 was disputed.

Joe has 2 big title fight wins, but 1 was disputed.

Marg has 2 big title fight wins, both by vicious KO.

Marg gets the nod here imo.

Margarito gets it beat a heavy hitting Cintron and THE man at WW in Cotto. Calzaghe gets some credit for Hopkins and a little bit for Jones but a fighter of his caliber shouldnt be fighting has beens.

If Pacquiao beats DLH then it's him. Darchinyan deserves a mention, beating Kirilov and Mijares, he also should have gotten that win against Gorres.

Joe Calzaghe, unless Pacquiao KOs De La Hoya.

                      Probably Margarito. Maybe Darchinyan.

I missed the Gorres fight, but Darchinyan followed that with wins over two world title holders, including a top 10 ranked p4p fighter in Mijares. Vic didn't just beat him, he dominated him from round 1.

Margarito beat two world title holders in possibly the best division in the sport. He kicked Cintron's ass and beat an undefeated young champ in Cotto who was ranked in the top 10 p4p.

I really don't see why Calzaghe is getting so much serious consideration. Name value shouldn't really matter, it should be the quality of the wins. Roy Jones has done nothing impressive in the ring since 2003. And he wasn't exactly impressive against Hopkins.
