  • CompuBox Analysis: Ricky Hatton vs. Paulie Malignaggi

By CompuBox - Of all the stylistic combinations a matchmaker can pair, the boxer versus the brawler has the most potential to produce a pleasing outcome because the contrast brings out the best – and the worst – in each combatant. On November 22 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the two most extreme exponents of each genre will meet when light-hitting but lightning quick Paul Malignaggi (25-1, 5 KO) meets rugged mauler Ricky “The Hit Man” Hatton (44-1, 31 KO) in a junior welterweight showdown. Hatton is a better than 2-to-1 favorite to defeat “The Magic Man.”

To get an idea of how each man would approach the other – at least numerically – this analysis will relive three fights in which each combatant faced a somewhat similar style. Because Hatton is defending his minor IBO belt, he will get the honors. [details]

Anyone wants to bet? I got all my points Hatton beats Paulie.

EDIT: For the same equal points of course, I barely have some =)

How does hatton plan on working malignaggi's body if the ref does his job and doesn't let hatton hold and hit? Is the ref going to be the ****test ref in boxing and allow holding and hitting in this fight? That is the only way I see midget armed Hatton winnning. He needs to hold and hit to win, and I really will be pissed if the ref doesn't do his job.

Of course, how silly of me to forget that it's possible to become a two weight world champion by only holding and hitting. My bad. I really must stop basing my opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of the fighters involved in a fight. What I should do is make tedious remarks because so many others do. Is there room in the flock for one more?

He held all night long against kosta, and he held onto castillo before delivering a devastating body shot. You must have forgot, so re-watch those fights.

Miguel Cotto is twice the fighter Hatton is and a much harder body puncher..
Paulie took everything Cotto gave him and lasted 12 rounds.
If Hatton does win.. it sure as hell wont be by knock out.

It will be by clinching all night long like he did to kosta. I pray that the ref is a good ref. Before the fight even starts, Paulie should ask the ref not to allow hatton to clinch all night long. I don't want to see that **** he did against castillo, where he clinched castillo and throws hard body shots... Lame ass ****, if his midget arms give him that much problems, maybe he should find a dif sport to be in.
