Danny Williams: '‘l’m not going to retire yet.’'

By Clive Bernath: Danny Williams has vowed to fight on despite being stopped by late replacement Albert Sosnowski at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday night.

The popular British heavyweight champion looked to be on his way to certain defeat against the 29 year-old Polish fighter prior to being knocked down heavily and stopped in the eighth round. Despite the manner in which he was defeated, though, the 35 year-old Londoner does not want to end career on a loss.

No, l’m not going to retire yet,” Williams exclusively told SecondsOut. “ I’m definitely not going out like that. I’m gonna be training hard over Christmas and get myself into top shape. I’m gonna defend my British title against John McDermott and win, lose or draw if I don’t feel right I will retire, I’m not gonna continue boxing. After 27 years of boxing I’ll say goodbye.”

As always, nice guy Danny was gracious in defeat, adding. “I’m not taking anything away from Albert, he was determined and boxed really well on the night. I have no excuses. I had a good training camp and sparring.”

No date or venue has yet been confirmed for William’s British heavyweight title rematch with John McDermott.

    Enjoy!
