If you say Joe didn't fight the best neither did Holmes. Holmes defended the WBC HW title over and over trying to beat Marciano record of undefeated HW champ. He was the best in his division but wasn't recognised until well after his run (like Joe)

Actually the comparison is close. Holmes was one win away from Marciano's undefeated record before he finally lost. And, to imply that Calzaghe is not an "expert boxer" is ludicrous.
