Paulie Malignaggi in all actuality should be able to beat hatton.
WHY???
well lets see...
Paulie has:
A) Faster hands
B) MUCH straighter punches
C) sticks and moves very well
D) has better defense and slick-ness
What does hatton have going for him?
A) Power (he has knockout power in both hands)
B) he's a relentless wildman
However if anyone hasnt noticed Hatton is past his prime and it showed in the lazcano fight where he was hurt by him (in the 10th i believe it was).
His punches are wide and looping which is good for paulie who delievers very straight and accurate punches and i expect him to do that with hatton's wide hooks.
Paulie has a very tough chin (cotto fight is THEE best example of that) he took punch after punch until his facial bones were broken and he STILL kept fighting on the way to a lopsided UD loss...so we know paulie has heart.
The truth is (in my opinion) if paulie can survive the inital onslaught of attack by hatton he can pull out a close SD win in the end as hatton gets worn down.
For the first half of the fight paulie wants to stick and move and be slick...dont let hatton get inside and bully him...keep hatton moving and guessing for the first half to 3/4th's of the fight...
once hatton wears down around the 8th-9th round paulie can put together his punches better on his way to a decision.
its going to be a close fight in my opinion...really a fight anyone can win. the variable in this fight is Paulie...we know what to expect from hatton but my fear is paulie will try to prove he's stronger or not afraid of hatton; etc. which could lead to paulie falling behind in the fight or worse.
if paulie goes in with the mindset and style he used in the first ndou fight i have no doubt he wins a decision.

I think all the eating and drinking hatton does when he's not in training camp led to his fading in his career.
Hatton shouldnt have looked as old as he did against lazcano its his body quitting on him when he goes up and down like 40 lbs in a few months continuously...
he finishes a fight...puts on 40lbs...then cuts that 40lbs in time for the next fight...over and over and over and over again.
its his body breaking down...
most fighters put on 10-15 in between fights...no 40...
and 10-15 is easier to lose than 40.
that why i expect hatton to wear down and fade down the stretch...lazcano almost made history against hatton that would have probably started a huge riot...and thats lazcano...now were talking about paulie who has the speed and skill to be crafty and earn a decision over hatton.
if you check my sig you can see how confident I am in paulie winning...i have virtually ALL my points on paulie winning this fight.
not saying its a sure thing (its far from a sure thing) but remember...this is 2008...the year of the underdog and comebacks...and paulie certainly has the right tools to beat hatton.

"if he made him fight".
Mayweather did much more sticking that moving in that fight. And he gave every single drop of rought stuff back to Hatton. Can Paulie do it as effectiely? mmm
