What Do fighters Like this Do for Boxing?

Here's a boxer named Faruq Saleem. He's been boxing professionally for 10 years and has 38 wins with no losses, his last win being against Willie Perryman. To me, this is the sort of thing that hurts boxing. I don't understand what the benefit of a career like this is. At least stepping up and losing a few would be more admirable, and surely make him more money. I can almost appreciate these so called 'bums' better, because at least they're showing guts if nothing else.

Perhaps he's a good sparring partner or whatever, but still, I don't see the value it brings to boxing to have a career like that.

Some people realize their limitations and have no desire to "step up"; being a local hero is sufficient. There are lots of fighters like this, they never fight anyone coming off of a win, they fight a lot of folks with losing records or fighting their pro debut, and they make some money doing it as a hobby in front of small crowds.

It's likely a personality trait that they are satisfied with not being ranked amongst the best, but they're also scared of being challenged to endanger their records...

Yeah the "club fighters" aren't really big enough names to hurt mainstream boxing, but I agree, it's just a shame that, as a fighter, you wouldn't want to continue pushing yourself, getting the big paydays and just all around seeing where you stand among your divisions better fighters.

That guy he posted only got an MD against Sedrick Fields.

What does he gain by fighting a Top 10 guy and getting blanked on the cards?

He's better than Shannon Briggs, who actually LOST to Sedrick Fields.

But surely if he was willing to step up, and at least put on a good performance in losing, he could potentially make more money fighting better boxers. Fields isn't great to say the least, but he's came close to beating some bigger names by the looks of it, and did beat Briggs.

Some people just enjoy to professionally box and have no desire to be knocked out and embarassed by higher opposition.

I'm not tying to be a prick but at least he is involved in a real boxing community rather than an online one.

Shannon Briggs would be a much more successful fighter in the 15 round era. Because if he went any more than 12 rounds every single opponent would slump into unconsciousness due to fucking boredom.

But should people like that be boxing professionally? Don't get me wrong, no one should begrudge anyone earning a living. But boxing is, after all, an entertainment business. This sort of thing doesn't seem to happen in MMA. I'm sure he's braver than than your average layman, absolutely. But if you're not prepared to put it all on the line in a combat sport I don't see the point really.
