Their is a big difference between beating a CURRENT CHAMPION for his belt.
and beating a fellow contender for a belt.

Thats why we have words like CHAMPION and CONTENDER....

and Cotto always fights contenders for his belts...

He has never had to beat a CHAMPION for his belt.
Cotto has never had to take away something from somebody who earned it.

I already tried answering one of your posts with a legitimate answer and got no response. I'll try again.

I agree that Cotto is still somewhat of a question mark. Because now that he's lost, we need to see how he rebounds and that will tell us a lot about him. There are adjustments that a champion makes that Cotto has yet to make. Adjustments that have plagued him his entire career, yet because of his natural talent only recently got really exposed. He needs to show he has the mental part of the game down. People say he's a smart fighter, I don't see it. He constantly gets lured into brawls, and he has been susceptible to uppercuts and both straight and overhand rights his ENTIRE career, smart fighters recognize that and make the adjustments. He still has ways to go, but the talent is there, and he's much more polished than the majority of Welterweights. He can still have a great career, a career better than Vargas who he gets compared to on here so much.

In response to your vacant title argument, I don't see what the problem is. First of all, most of that's Arum and you know that. Second of all, he's just capitalizing on opportunities. For the current example...what would you have preferred him to do coming off of the Margarito loss? He happened to be ranked #1 by a sanctioning body, and got offered a shot at a vacant belt. Who wouldn't take that? If he didn't have this opportunity, he would probably be fighting Kermit Cintron, who is the same person Margo came back from after his loss to PWill. Why didn't Cotto fight Williams for the belt instead of letting Williams vacate it first? Well, again it probably wasn't Cotto's call, but that would be a horrible decision. Let him get his ring bearings back before he gets right back in the ring with a top 2 Welterweight. He would have been more than happy to fight Floyd, but Floyd felt it was a high risk-low reward fight so he didn't want it(I'm a Floyd fan btw). He beat Mosley, who at the time was still considered very formidable. Judah at the time he beat him wasn't quite as washed up as he is now, and was coming off what many saw as a pretty good showing against Floyd.

You're dissecting his resume, when in reality you can do that to any fighter. The vacant title argument holds very little water as most of those occured when he was a young fighter and Arum was hesitant with him. The Quintana one was because he was fighting WW for the first time. And by the by, Quintana is a hell of a fighter.

I've done my best to get into a reasonable discussion about this, but I really think your too harsh on Cotto. Some of your arguments are definitely valid, but there are many where your clearly nitpicking as well.
