No Matter what you say. Cotto has not validated himself as a great fighter.
he has made a name for himself as a good fighter on the cusp of greatness.
but he has not validated himself as a great fighter.
THIS IS THE PROBLEM
he is still trying to make a name for himself instead of validate himself.[/FONT]
Imagine what a statement it would be for Cotto if having lost to Margarito he had told everyone that he only wants to fight Williams. That is the fight that, in my eyes, would solidify his name. Be the only one that can say that he isn't afraid of the guys that nobody wants to fight.

Low/Medium risk for Medium and big reward.

You obviously can't seem to understand. You choose to ignore the man's career and focus on insignificant bull**** that's only important to you. Cotto is a great fighter and at the end of his career he will be more respected for what he has done than if he had retired undefeated, had cherry picked his opponents and beat chump champions for their belts. Belts don't make a fighter great.

if you dont read my entire post how can you understand in context what i am telling you.
look
MY POINT IS THIS:
When is Cotto going to understand that fighting for vacant titles is not
making his situation better, but worst. Because THOSE FIGHTS ARE NOT VALIDATING HIM. BUT RAISING QUESTIONS ABOUT HIM.
Question like: Why does Cotto all of a sudden want to fight for the WBO belt now that Williams vacant it, Knowing all along Williams was reaDy to fight him.

repost:
7 years into his career what we dont know about Cotto yet to a certain extent is
- How would Cotto do against a reigning Champion, who is in his prime, young and looking to validate himself.
7 years into Cotto career, and Cotto cannot say to himself I actually Beat the Man to become the Man.
To me Cotto is like the New York Knicks when Jordan Left in His Prime, yeah they are the Eastern Conference champions, but
who did they beat to get there...????
Thats why we have words like CHAMPION and CONTENDER.
Yes Cotto has a good resume for a fighter who is an up and comer and who is trying to make a name for himself.
But Cotto should be past that point of his career where he is trying to make a name for himself,
and he should be at the point of his career where he is validating himself.
- That is a huge difference.
Cotto understood that, thats why he took the fight with Margarito, to Validate himself.
And what did him in is the lack of preparation and training throughout his career cause him to fail against Margarito.
- and Also Margarito Showed that unike a contender, a Champion will finish the job when he has opponent hurt.

but i feel he is not doing himself no justice by fighting for all these vacant
titles..

You still didnt answer the question
Why does Cotto always fights for vacant belts, and never fights the champions
for those belts?
Cotto defeated Pinto for his WBO jr ww title
AND IT'S NOT HIS FAULT HATTON STEPPED DOWN IN WEIGHT TO VACATE THE WBA WW TITLE HE GOT FROM BEATING QUINTANA.
SO let's talk about all these "top guys/champions that you say he's avoiding".
WHO?!
He's willing to fight Berto, Marg, Cintron, Clottey, and even Mayweather. How is that the easy way out to being the best? The only person that's been ignored BY EVERYONE is Williams. Is that who you're talking about?
Williams will be an issue if Cotto gets past Marg, we'll see what Cotto has to say about him till then.
Go ahead and build your case around Williams if you want, but don't say Cotto's avoiding any champs to become a champ. If he never defended his belts, I can see you saying that, but he's had great opposition in his title defenses.
You say Cotto is suspect.
What boxer isn't?
