Poll: THE BEST SANCTION BODY?

if i was a boxer. i wud wanna hold the WBC. it looks sexy. would love that hanging up on my wall. it also seems the most respectful. -
I voted "none of 'em" on my own poll 'cause I don't like multiple champions, I don't like all the weight classes they have created, I don't like heavy sanction fees, I don't like the way they strip great champions of their belts.
Though, it seems to me that lately the WBO has been more unwilling to take away the titles of their champs than the other bodies. But, it's just a feelin', and right now I'm too tired to make a research. Anyone?Comment

WBA - Three world champions in the same division, simultaneously. Come on...I voted "none of 'em" on my own poll 'cause I don't like multiple champions, I don't like all the weight classes they have created, I don't like heavy sanction fees, I don't like the way they strip great champions of their belts.

WBC - Rocchigiani fiasco, King, Sulaiman, etc
IBF - Recognising Judah as champion despite losing his previous title fight.
WBO - Ranking a dead man in their top ten. I know Frank Warren likes soft touch opponents but that takes the biscuit.
Answer: none of the above.Comment

That's the worry. These belts get credibility by having credible champions. The IBF became established right away by recognising respected champs like Holmes, Hagler and Spinks. The WBO got credibility over time by having such guys as Hopkins, Calzaghe, De La Hoya, Barrera and the Klitschkos holding their titles. When you see the likes of Hatton, Wlad and Dawson draping themselves in IBO belts, how long will it be before we're talking about the five major sanctioning bodies?Originally posted by CounterpunchDo you think as the years go by some of the smaller sanctioning bodies will die out, or do you think there will be more and more popping up, each with like.. 10 paper titles? I think this is one of the big problems in boxing today. Boxing will never reach the same levels of popularity as in previous decades while we've got all these fat, money and power hungry, middle-aged grease balls hiding behind the illusions of a sanctioning body to suck the blood out of it.Comment

Correct. The IBF were widely ignored when they entered the stage, nobody wanted them because WBA and WBC already gave the boxing world plenty of headaches. But it was a smart move recognizing Holmes when WBC stripped him, the IBF got their attention and became established. Later on, the IBF actions worked as a manual for the WBO.
Looking at the history of IBF and WBO, you get quite astonished of how quick they were accepted. In the 70's there were no dispute about WBA and WBC already being one too many. No way was there room for another one. How foolish we were.
Learning the lesson, I won't be surprised the day we have IBO and WBF among the majors (and others, as well). They just have to follow in the footsteps of IBF/WBO, claiming a few greats as their champions.
A talented 20-year old, clinching one of the belts, and who wants to call himself THE champion of the world, will have to spend the rest of his career in unification bouts. Unless he's like B-Hop and fights past his 40's, I don't think he'll have the time to make it.Comment
