Eagles' Donovan McNabb, ripped again by Bernard Hopkins, excused from practice
There is zero truth to the rumor that Eagles' quarterback Donovan McNabb spent Wednesday tending to a bruised ego after yet another barrage of insults hurled his way by boxing legend and Philadelphia's own, Bernard Hopkins. Nevertheless, McNabb was excused from today's practice, which was closed to the media as are all Wednesday sessions, for personal reasons. He is expected back tomorrow as the Eagles (5-4) prepare for the Cincinnati Bengals (1-8) Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium. Here is some of what Hopkins, a longtime critic of McNabb and former Middleweight Champion, had to say on Comcast SportsNet Monday night. "Some people are athletes, still good, but don't have that extra 'I'm willing to sacrifice my life. I'm willing to sacrifice what I have to sacrifice to win.' ... People never forgot when things happen, they see a guy crumble under pressure. Whether they throw up on the highway, whether they throw up on the court, whether they throw up on the football field, when people see that, that sticks in the back of their mind." Hopkins was not through. "Every athlete should have that killer instinct in him, especially if you the quarterback... If he's not right here and here (pointed to his heart and head), and don't want it, the team feel the vibes." Hopkins then said the Eagles are stuck with McNabb and his contract, which is not necessarily true. "The reason things are the way they are is because of the money wrapped in him,'' Hopkins said. "They can't get rid of him."-- Newark Star-Ledger
