I thought that was one of Toney's best performances, and that he won clearly (maybe not as one-sided as the judges had it, though). I don't think that's a knock on Toney's ability to deal with that sort of style that it was fairly close, it's a credit to Jirov's amazing workrate, and terrific body attack.

Toney likes that sort of fight, he's great at countering guys who attack and leave openings, and spend time on the inside.

Barkley was past his prime. James "Belly's Out" Toney looked good against a shot fighter who was never very good to begin with, but what does that prove?

Barkley had been defeated in his prime by a natural lightweight, the much smaller Roberto Duran.

Barkley also beat Tommy Hearns twice. But I guess that means nothing right? Because Tommy is black.

Barkley had been defeated in his prime by a blown-up lightweight, Roberto Duran.
Barkley at the time was a 2-division champion (SMW & LHW). He was not shot but he was never the same after that beating.

It's not Toney's greatest win but one of his greatest performances. A lot of fighters folded under Barkley's pressure, even Michael Nunn had great trouble with him.

No way would Toney beat Calzaghe at 168.

Calzaghe adaptation, footwork (moving in and out) and hand speed would bother Toney majorly.

Toney isn't very good at hitting a moving target, he'd do well if Calzaghe fought him on his chest but Calzaghe would adapt and not be ****** enough to do that.

I think Michael Nunn was James Toney's best win. People say that Toney merely got lucky with a hail mary punch, but it wasn't the case. Toney had been getting to Nunn and coming on strong in the last 3 or so rounds. Sure he had trouble, what kind of relatively green fighter wouldn't have trouble with someone as gifted and unorthodox as Nunn? Not that many.

Agreed. It was just a great performance by both of them, even Nunn.

Toney's fights against McCallum and Jirov were also great performances by both fighters.

Toney looked a lot better in the first fight with McCallum than the 2nd (and boring 3rd bout). I thought Toney won the first, but I had MM winning the rematch by a point. The rematch was hard to score though.

Toney and McCallum were so sharp in that first fight. Toney was also real light too, I think 157.
