That was a cpu simulation run thru a predictor based on a datasheet. RM 49-0 worked hugely into the program. Read Champions it discusses it. It concludes that "we find it impossible that the crude Marciano could beat the quicksilver genius of Ali".

The computer computed numbers, but it couldn't compute or even measure what each fighter had in the hearts. So, numbers wise Rocky could have been competitive.

        marciano was a legend.

        ali was not yet.

it's like comparing juan manuel lopez to wilfredo gomez in a hypothetical bout.

wilfredo is a legend and juan manuel is still unproven.

That was made during Ali's exile, he wasn't really popular with the public and at that point Ali hadn't proven his greatness yet, there were still many doubt about him.

did they really use a computer to predict that fight?

What the hell does that have to do with it. Marciano had proven mental and physical toughness as well as the stamina to throw non stop punches for 15 rounds. Golota folded like a chair. Tua was content not to be ko'd and Briggs was exhausted after 5. Like I said, Marciano would give himself a far better chance of winning than any of those guys did.
yeah you have a point...golata really folds alot...didnt he refuse to come out for the next round in his last match?

Pre-exile Ali would have smashed Marciano. Afterwards, it would have took a little more time. But Ali would still came out on top, and rather easily.

who's to say that Ali couldnt get the marciano version tired? there's always a first time for everything.

I think no one would touch a peak Ali. Joe Louis may make for a competitive fight, but like against any man, Ali's speed was too great, he'd dance for 15, popping and moving. Ali always had issues with short fighters with solid left hooks, cos he wasnt technically great (jab wasnt straight down the line etc). But such were his gifts of speed, heart and reflexes that he'd triumph.

You're right. Marciano could be the first to stop Ali....
