In this day, this time, if thomas hearns was putting his undefeated record on the line against Ray Leonard next saturday would you say that Hearns is overated? If you never knew what would become of him?

Seeing how popular it is to say fighters are overated nowadays, there's no doubt in my mind, that some posters would say Tommy was overatred

Be honest, this is a superfight all over again, and it's a popular trend for fans we have today to criticise a fighter on any little ****ing thing, would you call Hearns overated with Pipino Cuevas on his record?

Hearns would be "overrated" because he lost to Leonard.

Leonard would be "overrated" because he lost to a guy who peaked 2 divisions below, and never fought a junior welterweight who "called him out" (which counts as ducking in message board logic).

Benitez would be "overrated" because he was lucky to get past Bruce Curry.

Duran would be "overrated" because he quit in one of the biggest fights ever, and wasn't even taking a bad beating.

Ali would be "overrated" because he only beat Frazier after Foreman was done with him, got questionable decisions against Shavers, Norton, Young, etc...and lost to a cokehead with 7 pro fights.

Holmes would be "overrated" because he never unified or gave rematches to the guys who gave him such tough fights.

I see where you're going with this and I completely agree.

When an upset happens, it's always because the guy who lost was overrated and not because the winner is a good fighter. It's bullish and I steer far clear of that logic because I believe nothing in boxing happens just to happen.

There is always something behind the conclusions and outcomes and fights that force it to happen.

some good responses in this thread. That's why i think some fans are taking it overboard when it comes to their prefrences, and what they think a good or bad record should be.

I agree,overrated is the most common word used in boxing nawadays,if any good fighters beats another good fighter,its not because hes a great boxer,its because the other was overrated
