    Sven Ottke Appreciation Thread

EDIT: Totally wrong video, I meant to post him KOing Mundine, but I'll leave the song anyway.

He will never be on Tye's level,

But we can show him some love for KOing Mundine.

Ottke was a good fighter. He got some breaks late, but at his best he was a handful and had some good wins. Why people **** on the guy is beyond me.

I agree with you. I guess people hold the Reid fight against him. Ottke these days is a very underrated fighter.

All jokes aside, I’ve been watching many of his fights lately and many of the so called robberies weren’t robberies at all. Put it this way, had his name been Bernard Hopkins, many wouldn’t be calling such fights robberies (well everybody who shouts robberies would have actually watched the fights, not based their opinions from third parties)…

He should have fought ***zaghe but they were to busy ducking each other. Now there both tied for a crappy record in a division were they were both supposedly champs at the same time. What a joke. That's like some heavyweight claiming he was defending the Heavyweight title at the same time as Larry Holmes. Pathetic

I'm no Ottke expert I've only seen a few of his fights. I've seen those so called "robberies" like the Mitchell fight and the Glen Johnson fight and Ottke to me was the clear winner in both. I watched the British Eurosport version of the Mitchell bout that had the very colorful and outspoken British commentator Steve Holdsworth and he had it 118-112 for Ottke. I had it 118-111 for Ottke. Mitchell was way too passive in that fight. Sven did circles around Glen Johnson and beat him way more decisively than Dawson or Woods did. No controversy there. When people call these two fights in particular robberies makes me wonder if they actually seen them.

I don't think he was ever given a "gift" as such, but some of the fights were scored a little questionably (Robin Reid, fir instance) and some of the decisions he got might have gone the other way had he been fighting in a neutral country with neutral refs and judges.

                    he's a good fighter azza.

i admit he's not my kind of fighter but he has a solid record.

34-0 and one could argue his resume is better than joe calzaghe's.

charles brewer , robin reid , byron mitchell , the great tocker pudwill......those are the guys joe defended his belt against. same guys sven beat.

add thomas tate , glen johnson and mads larsen. that's a solid resume especially considering it's in less fights than joe.

people forget that for 3-4 years sven ottke was rated #1 at 168 by ring and most others......ahead of joe calzaghe.
