The opponent for former champ Eric Morel (39-2, 20KOs) has been named. On December 13 in Puerto Rico, headlining a card called "The Final Step," Morel will face Mexican veteran Ricardo 'Chapo' Vargas in a bantamweight contest. Vargas has lost his last couple of bouts but he's rugged and has faced stiff competition like Rafael Marquez, Silence Mabuza and Jhonny Gonzalez. Back in 2002-2003, Vargas was a serious conteder, holding two wins over Gonzalez, Trinidad Mendoza and Gerson Guerrero. [details]

Wow... I just heard about this Vargas guy last night.
I was watching a really old fight, between 20-0 Erik Morales vs. 13-3-2 Rudy Bradley. They were talking about how Morales was supposed to win this and get a shot at Zaragoza, but... Bradley had played spoiler before. He had beaten Ricardo Vargas, when he was Vargas's tune-up opponent to get a rematch with Johnny Tapia, who he just came off a close techinical draw with.

Is Morento any good, thats surprising he must be done, guys be up against some of the best and usally goes 12.
He gave Tapia all he could handle, no wonder the rematch never happened. You should check out some of Ricardo Vargas fight, the guy was a very educated boxer (as in boxing skills).Wow... I just heard about this Vargas guy last night.

Moreno is the dude who beat that Wladimir Sidorenko (or whatever his name is) for the first time.Is Morento any good, thats surprising he must be done, guys be up against some of the best and usally goes 12.

Sidorenko was the guy who gave that Poonsawat dude his first loss. It's all trickling down.
Right right about Vargas, I heard he was a pretty skilled puncher.
But, the rematch was supposed to come off, Vargas just blew it in the tune-up fight... Pretty shocking when that happens.
That Bradley guy I watched was much better than 13-3-2... Against Morales, he lost every round, but... all of the early rounds were just razor close that Morales barely got in the end. It's a shame his career never really picked up... he looked pretty good in the ring.
Morel probably beats Vargas though, considering the Tapia thing was back in like 1996... That's a long time for a fighter to keep their ability to fight.Comment

Vargas wasn't a puncher. But he had a great chin and he could box for 12 rounds as if its the 1st.Moreno is the dude who beat that Wladimir Sidorenko (or whatever his name is) for the first time.

ESPN led me awry!
That's just what they were saying about him.
By the way, this Moreno guy is probably much better than an old, previously jailed, pedo Eric Morel, so... this fight isn't a done deal for Morel.Comment

pedo, lol, there two differnt meaning for pedo, when you count slang
Never seen Moreno fight but if Bush said Vargas got ko'd in 1, then there isn't much left in Vargas. The guy used to be great at keeping distance but would still engage.Comment
