Hopkins: "No Interest in Jones Rematch, Roy Must Quit"

Bernard Hopkins has no interest in staging a rematch with Roy Jones Jr. He sat ringside at New York's Madison Square Garden and watched Jones take a beating at the hands of Joe Calzaghe. Jones won a decision over Hopkins fifteen-years ago and there was hope by both that a rematch could happen at some point in 2009, but the rematch was riding on a Jones win. Hopkins thought Jones looked terrible, old and feels that retirement is in order. [details]

God bless Bernard. That's showing class. Your were always a class act win lose or draw. But imust tell you, you should think retirement too. Although you can still fight safe you can't fight 12 rounds vs a very active fighter like Dawson and i feel he will target you next. If you do take the fight be careful.

b hop is completely right rjj has nothing left and i dont see how anybody would every pay to watch him again. i expected a lot more out of him in the calz fight but he has nothing left to offer. b hop would seriously hurt rjj if they fought.

I have never heard B-Hop talk like this. Jones will probably find it patronizing, but the guy actually makes a lot of sense

I hate seeing Roy talked about like this but Hop has definitely made some valid points. I'd like to see him stop before he gets injured seriously as well. I have too much love for Roy to want to see him continue on knowing we will never see the beast he once was.

Hopkins, finally talked with some sense, I admire that he didnt talked crap about him, just the truth. RJJ should retire, this was the fight were he got exposed.

yeah, im glad to see somebody else made that comparison. i've been saying it for the longest now. floyd mayweather is a smaller, faster version of hopkins, and if he wanted to, he could very well be fighting into his late 30's early 40's too....

you're right. i was saying hopkins, roy, and calzaghe should stay away from dawson.......but i wouldn't count hopkins out against anybody. it doesn't look like there'll be a rematch w/ calzaghe, hopkins isn't gonna fight roy now, so i wouldn't be surprised if he shocks us all and takes a figh w/ dawson.....

there's a diff btw. **** talking and speaking the truth. in ring mag hopkins was being half real, but talking **** at the same time.....what he said here was 100% being real, and i think a lot of ppl would watch rjj-hopkins II, and it'd make a lot of money, but what would if prove for hopkins if he wins? it won't be any kind of vindication, b/c its clear to every1, or it should be, that roy is shot now.....

ppl can say what they want about hopkins being no fun to watch, old, w/e else, but even when he was younger, his fights weren't necessarily beautiful....the thing you gotta admire is that no matter how hard it was to watch his fights w/ winky and calzaghe, hopkins has never been beaten to ****....when you're a fighter that was basically untouchable, and you get beaten to **** the way roy was, its time to retire, and thats all hopkins was saying. sad but true.

please who is hopkins to suggest retirement for anybody. furthermore, i see nothing admirable in hopkins fighting guys who are two and three divisions smaller who don't have a enough pop to even be a threat to slow him down much less hurt him. at least jones fought guys his size at middle and supermiddle, then fought guys who were visibly bigger and stronger at 175. if you continue to fight bigger guys, you are bound to get put down. what junior middle is hopkins looking to fight at a catchweight next?. . .lol

kelly doesn't have enough pop to slow hopkins down? u gotta be kidding me. u were probably one of the ones saying before the fight that pavlik was going to STOP hopkins. the reason he couldn't slow hopkins down is b/c he couldn't hit him.......don't forget hopkins was reigning middleweight champion for 10 years, moved UP 15 pounds and beat the **** outta tarver. since he has only fought winky and calzaghe at the higher weight. u talking as if he's been at lighthvy. for 10 years. you can complain about wieght advantages all you want, and i'll remind you that hopkins is going on 44 years old, so keep that **** to yourself.

like i said before, the fights hopkins lost have all been close, so when he saw "superman" beat to **** like he had never been saturday, he knew, i knew, roy knew, and you knew, it was time to hang 'em up...
