Who out of these two modern day greats will be most remembered in say the next 10-20 years?? Hopkins has aged so well and is still beating the best and his recent losses being very close (still gained respect), however Jones's recent losses have been brutal and have taken the gloss of his earlier days.
Better Legacy? Jones v Hopkins?

As it stands, I rank Jones higher but...Hopkins isn't done yet. A decisive win over Calzaghe or Dawson will seal it. But, for now, hard to argue against titles from 160-heavyweight. Jones' victory over Ruiz (forget the fact that he also beat Hopkins and Toney) is hard to top.Comment

It really depends. Hopkins was the first man to unify the 4 world titles. He holds wins over some of the very best fighters of the era as well of being one of the greatest defensive fighters ever. On the other hand, Jones was thought to be unbeatable in his prime and seemingly unhittable. He also was someone who could go into any division he wanted and take any title, someone who made every fighter he was in the ring with look like an amateur. 8 time, 4 division world champion. It's really all about opinion.Last edited by Madvillain; 11-11-2008, 11:47 AM.Comment

Jones the more gifted boxer but Hopkins more of a survivor who has aged better and has more in reserve when things go against him.
I'd say about level.Comment

To those people who are picking Hopkins:
Where do you rank Joe in the 3?
If you are ranking Hopkins above Roy, I would assume it was for his dominance of the MW division. He had 20 defenses, won all 4 major belts and then stepped up to light heavy to claim the Ring belt.
Joe has done exactly the same and more. He has 21 successive defenses, won all 4 belts and then also stepped up to light heavy to claim the ring belt from none other than Hopkins himself.
How can these people say Calzaghe is a nobody and then rank Hopkins above RJJ on the grounds of him doing a little less than Joe did.
*For the record*
Roy has the better legacy, no question.Comment

I would call it level, but catch 22... Roy beat Hop
and the Calzaghe performance showed Roy had a heart, which many people thought he lacked...
Roy was the fighter on the 90's, back then B-hop wasnt doin anything worth mentioning...
Bhop is more this decade, since 2001...Comment
