Why did Hopkins duck the fight originally?

He didn't duck him, he just didn't take him seriously.

This was before Joe even had Lacy on his record for Christ's sake. There was no money to be made, and no recognition to be had.

You can make a much better case for Joe ducking Johnson than you can Hopkins ducking Joe.

Fine, I shouldn't have said butt hurt for that I apologize, but in this instance you're only seeing the positive of Bernard and the negative of Joe. Try to look the positive and negative of both fighter. Bernard's positive, he scored a kd. His negative, he ran, he clinched, he faked low blows. Joe's negative he fought sloppy, his positive, he made the fight and went after Bernard forcing him to tire.

There was $3m to be made - a figure Hopkins stipulated which was his highest purse. A figure he agreed to then of course doubled.
