Non Stop Boxing's English Improvement for Beginners!!

Yes it's that time again folks, time to bring learning back to the internet!

Tired of your threads not receiving many hits? Too many people ridicule and discount your arguments? Well we have the solution, tidy up the language on your thread title and you're one step ahead of 70% of boxingscene users!

For today's issue we hope to help you improve your English in the area of Thread Names. This quick tutorial will show you the most commonly made mistakes and how to correct them post haste!

    Self Correction Exercise
To start things off we will give you a sample of some boxingscene thread titles that use incorrect grammar. Let's see if you can spot the mistakes!

1.so is shane and marg fighting?
2.Roy Jones Jr. Has no heart and always folded under adversity....
3.Who more deserving to get the nod? Johnson over Dawson or Marquez over Pac II
    4.Why Many Hate Them?

Ok let's dissect these beauties! Don't worry if you wrote some of these threads, correcting your own mistakes is the best way to learn!

1.so is shane and marg fighting?: The first obvious mistake is the non capitlisation of the first word in the sentence, it should read "So". The second is the misuse of the verb "Be", if Shane was fighting by himself "is" would be accepted. But since "Shane" and "Marg" are both mentioned the verb should change to "Are". High five yourself if you noticed both those mistakes. N.B. It would be acceptable to say "So is Shane fighting Marg?"

    2. Roy Jones Jr. Has no heart and always folded under adversity....: Only one notable mistake this time boys and girls, the random capitalisation of the word "Has", maybe the writer of this piece became confused with the full stop he decided to add after "Roy Jones Jr"

3.Who more deserving to get the nod? Johnson over Dawson or Marquez over Pac II: The absence of a modal verb, i.e. past tense of be "Was". "Who was more deserving..."

4.Why Many Hate Them?: Wow I really like this one don't you? So many possible cognitive processes behind this sentence. If your first observation was a lack of a verb then high five yourself again! A lot of meaning hangs on the definition of the word "Many", is it a name or is it the word "Many" which mean plentiful. It could read "Why does Manny hate them?" or "Why do so many people hate them (note is in unclear as to whom or what them actually are)"

Use these corrections to improve your thread titles. Remember when you see a new English word, Google the meaning and put it in your own personal English dictionary. Once you have over 100 words in there you have a more expansive vocabulary than 70% of boxingscene users.

    See you nex time!!
