Is there such a thing as a top 100 all time great?

I reserve the term for fighters such as Willie Pep, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong, Harry Greb, Roberto Duran, the best of the best, but a case could be made for Joe if you aren't as strict about using the term.

Surely an all time great merely means someone who would be a great in their weight division if they were around during any time in the history of the sport.

Joe Calzaghe would give anyone who was ever in or around his division a tough time.

That seems about right. However is it 12 rounds or 15? Maybe 45 or to the finish? In any case it's a near impossible feat to rank fighters p4p over several eras.

Its a tough one isn't it. I think that saying Calzaghe is a top 30 boxer of all time are wide of the mark. There have been so many trully great boxers over the years that Calzaghe's achievements, although amazing, are just not as good as names like Greb, Armstrong, Leonard and Duran. If I ever got round to doing a top 100 of all time then I would envisage Calzaghe coming somewhere around the 80 mark.

Here is the thing though, off the top of your head naming 4 fighters who accomplishments are greater than Calzaghes is pretty easy. Naming another 26 with not a single one among them that are questionable is not so easy.
