Four knockdowns in his entire 46 fight career, all of them but one a flash knockdown and even in the one that wasn't (Mitchell) he was back on his feet and throwing bombs within seconds. Calzaghe has a decent chin.

You're absolutely right. Calzaghe did NOTHING to get a shot at Hopkins, unlike Robert Allen (twice) and Simon Brown obviously. And he did NOTHING to deserve a shot at Jones. Not like the mighty Otis Grant or Reggie Johnson...

Uhh Reggie Johnson was pretty ****ing good man. He gave Toney a ****load of problems and beat John David Jackson, arguably both Jorge Castro fights, Steve Collins, and then moved up to Light Heavyweight and beat solid comp there too. He was one of Jones' better people.

Robert Allen was the mandatory twice. Simon Brown was a tune up basically.

And now suddenty, he can't hold Calzaghe's jock strap because Calzaghe beat the version of RJJ we saw last night?

Jesus, it's amazing what beating a shot legend can do for you.
      Excellent post..

I know why, because hes a LEGIT threat!!

Dawson is like the newer Roy.. Not as good as a prime Roy obviously, but has blazing speed, good pop, excellent boxing skills and ring generalship..

I don't see him as chinny either.. Some ppl on this forum are just f uckin buggin.. If you get caught you get caught..

Dawson was down and up.. He was never HURT..
Calzaghe was down and up. He wasnt really hurt either and ppl say hes got a great beard..

      I can't understand this..

Expect Chad to be number 1 p4p along with gamboa and linares ina few years

Zab Judah has a better chance of winning a title at 140 then Gamboa being up that high on the p4p list. **** I might even say Linares too. Linares is great and all, but he's way to inactive and he seems to get injury hurt a lot.

Oh and @slicksouthpaw, what do you mean Glen Johnson was a slickster or something? Johnson might have been better, but he was still very good at 32-0. **** he might have just gone through a rough patch. Johnson has many problems with movers and combonations.

It's just that Dawson lacks the grade a defensive to beat either Hopkins or Calzaghe.

Say what you want about Roy being shot, but that's how Joe always fought pretty much. That more style of control, but flurries. He's a weird ass style, but it works. Not to mention that Joe is the best adapter in the game today to people's gameplan, he could adjust to Dawson's speed.

And Dawson is nowhere near as good defensively as Prime Roy, to whoever compared him to that. **** they don't even fight the same. Jones had a weird ass style.

Dawson has a better chance of beating Nard, but even then that's unlikely.

Roy was definitely shot, he no longer had the legs to move away from Calzaghe's punches and he doesn't have the workrate anymore to capatilze when Calzaghe is not on the defensive (and there were plenty of opportunities). A prime Roy would of beaten Calzaghe.

As for Dawson's defense, Dawson has improved his D against Tarver. He'll beat Calzaghe or Hopkins. As for Calzahge's adaptability, it wouldn't matter how he adapts because he won't have any answer to Dawson's speed. Dawson can really set a fight to his pace with his jab, than overwhelms his opponents with a string of combination's. Dawson also counters very well. Calzaghe isn't a huge puncher so Dawson has nothing to fear and will most likely block a lot of Calzaghe's shots.

It isn't so much dismissing Dawson, he has potential. It's more the fact that Dawson is now being bandied about as the ONE GUY that if ONLY Joe beats him then he'll get our respect. But he isn't the only ONE GUY that it has been said about. Look up the old Lacy threads, Lacy was the ONE GUY who Calzaghe had to beat, Calzaghe wrecks him and Lacy was suddenly garbage. Then Kessler was the ONE GUY that if only Calz would beat he would have our respect... You see how it works? Now after months of Pavlik being the ONE GUY he loses to Old Man Popkins by an insane margin and suddenly without warning Dawson becomes the ONE GUY...

Dawson is going to be a good light heavy for the next generation but right now he doesn't have the star power for it to be worthwhile for Calzaghe to fight. Calzaghe vs (old shot) Jones was a PPV. Calzaghe vs Dawson might end up on HBO or Showtime as a free airing.

It isn't about how good a fighter is, it's about what they have DONE to deserve a shot at Hopkins or Jones. The comment I was responding to suggested that Calzaghe didn't deserve a shot at those two. But he held one of the belts, racked up a lot of defenses, made his claim. To suggest that Calzaghe needed to do something more to get a shot at Jones and Hopkins of all people (who both fought their fair share of turds, let's be honest) is ludicrous and is simply arguing, not thinking.

Calzaghe isn't a huge puncher so Dawson has nothing to fear and will most likely block a lot of Calzaghe's shots.
Also he is a "slapper" and he is "sloppy" and has a "weak chin" because he got dropped by "old man Hopkins" right?

Dawson has a lot of talent, and he's a better fighter now than he was back against Johnson, I thought he won that fight, he's also the fighter most people recognize as the best light heavyweight outside of Calzaghe and Hopkins so I think he's a pretty good fighter, why not fight the best and see what he's made of?

Because if he loses to someone like Calzaghe or an older guy like Hopkins the world will think that he is made of "overrated".

You also have to consider this could be the only time Dawson could fight them, Calzaghe and Hopkins pretty much have 1 foot out the door, there's no time to wait until he's 30 to fight them. And if he goes on to do good things, people will look back at the win for either Calzaghe or Hopkins as a very good one, look at how much more Calzaghe's victory over Hopkins looks now with Hopkins' win over Pavlik.

No because he passed his test and is more proven then Kessler, Lacy so that won't fly
