This was an easy fight to pick

I said in the BoxingScene predictions article that once a fighter becomes OK with losing, there is no turning back. Before the fight Jones was saying he wasn't going to be timid and complacent but what else did you expect him to say?

I noted that Calzaghe's will to win was still intact while Jones didn't have that insatiable desire to succeed.

I was very impressed with Calzaghe, I felt he put on a great performance and showed his championship credentials.

I thought some of the showboating was unnecessary, he really just embarrassed Jones. It was humiliating.

Totally agree on you calling it the moment Roy acted ok with losing. I knew it was over the minute it was signed simply because Roy is shot, but that comment he made about, "If I lose, who cares?" proved he wasn't there mentally either

I think Roy has a ton of idiot fans on here similar to the Tyson fans we used to get on here and the other site. They always think another comeback is right around the corner

I don't know Ryan, I thought Roy was out there trying. I think Joe was simply too fast and active and Roy just didn't have it anymore...

He might have been trying up until 7 or 8, but he went into a shell after that just like we all said he would.

He was there for a payday and because God lied to him

Honestly when i heard that i thought the opposite, i thought , oh **** Roy is willing to put himself out there again even if it means getting ko'd by trying to win, i guess he didn't put himself out there like he said.

The commentators were saying he was trying, I tend to disagree. Jones himself said it was a moral victory just to go the distance with the cut, he never went out there and tried to take chances and win the fight. He did the same as he did in the third fight, just did enough to get by.

I mean, a guy is standing in front of you squared up with his hands down mocking you and you can't make the slightest pretense of ambition?

You had to get the feeling that this was a money fight for Jones. Who believes that beating on Tito Trinidad at 170 pounds is a great accomplishment. My only concern heading into this fight was that Roy didn't get hurt.

Its just a case of a fighter being done, and coming back, and then it being proved again he was done. This reminds of what happened to Sugar Ray Leonard. This is what happens to alot of great fighters.

Leonard's problem when he came back against Norris was that he was too light and Norris was too young. Against Camacho, yeah he was just too done.

But you could still see the competitive drive in Leonard, the desire to beat the odds. I didn't see that in Jones last night. He just doesn't seem to have it in his heart anymore to want to fight. He seems over it.

This reminds me a lot of Robinson's last fight with Joey Archer. Archer was similar to Calzaghe in that he couldn't break an egg yet still, he managed to physically punish Robinson. What Robinson, Jones and Leonard have in common is the ignominious fashion in which they exited the sport.

I think your right. You hit the nail with the hammer on that one. When Roy was young, he would never accept losing. Hes different now...
