Once again, Roy Jones threw the same amount of punches that Roy Jones always throws. Were the combinations there? No. Has Roy Jones ever thrown combinations when he has not been in complete control of a fight? No.
People forget how Roy fights, yourself included. You attribute attributes to him that he never had, such as a killer instinct, and lots of combinations.
He is a safety first fighter, always has, always will be. If he does not feel it is safe to uncork a combination, he will not uncork a combination. He has always been a one shot at a time, only throw a combination when it will make you look bad kind of fighter.
Roy's offense simply was not sufficient to sequester Calzaghe's work rate. Same as with Hopkins.
The simple fact of the matter is that he was in there with an incredibly talented, incredibly durable fighter in Joe Calzaghe.
If he was in there with Chad Dawson he would have won. If he was in there with Bernard Hopkins, he would have won. The fact of the matter is that he was in there with perhaps the best p4p fighter on the planet, and he lost.
Is Roy the same fighter he was when he was 25? Of course he isn't. He is 40 years old, he has some physical limitations. His stamina will never be what it is when he was younger. He will never be able to win a fight that comes down to work rate with a fighter with hand speed like Joe Calzaghe, just like Bernard never will be able to win that kind of fight any more.Comment

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA HOPKINS WAS NEVER HURT OR HIT CLEANLY in the entire fight. verge of being stopped get joes ass off your face you ****ing clown. hopkins landed a lot of meaningful punches hence the knockdown and when calzaghe almost went down 2 other times in the fight. NUTHUGGER STATUS AWARDED CONG**** JOE JRLets hear an argument to support that statement.
Dawson would have lost this fight at several points. He would not have gotten up from the first knockdown. He would have been out cold from that uppercut. Many of the punches that Joe Calzaghe walked through would have had Chad Dawson on wobbly legs.
I never said that Roy should keep fighting. I have already gone on record as stating that he should have retired after the Trinidad fight. He simply has nothing left to prove in the sport, but that doesn't make him shot, and that doesn't make him a less viable fighter. It simply means he is has nothing left to prove.
Roy was never in trouble, he was never in over his head, he was never in danger of getting stopped. He was landing crisp punches all night long. That is more than we can say of Bernard, who was in over his head, was hurt, was on the verge of getting stopped, and was unable to land any meaningful punches against Joe.Comment

Okay, you got me there. I was making an inference that Dawson stops punching when he is hurt, and against a fighter like Roy, that would be every time he eats a straight right hand.
Its funny that you mention Dawson's defense since we have only seen it against Tarver's slow ass since it was leaking like a screen door on a submarine against Glen Johnson, who by the way did win that fight.
I have a sneaking su****ion that Dawson's defense is still just as leaky as ever, and will once again plague him the next time he gets in there with someone with a semblance of speed.Comment

5 minute rest doesn't mean he was in over his head, you can be sure there were many more people who though Hopkins won that fight than Jones winning against Calzaghe, that does not mean a fighter is in over his head.
We'll have to wait and see about his defense, I believe it has improved. And I scored Dawson-Johnson 115-113 for Dawson.Okay, you got me there.
