On the undercard to Joe Calzaghe-Roy Jones Jr. at New York's Madison Square Garden, Francisco "El Gato" Figueroa (20-2, 13KOs) caught a break by winning an eight-round split-decision over Emanuel Augustus (38-30, 20KOs). The scores were 77-75 for Augustus, 77-75 for Figueroa and 77-75 for Figueroa. There were many who felt Augustus did enough to win and the scores drew some boos from Figueroa's hometown crowd. Augustus won, no other way about it. Makes me wonder if these judges have some hometown fans pointing a gun to their head. Another disgraceful decision. The fight was not a blow out for Augustus, but to give the fight to Figueroa is a complete joke. No wonder boxing is a loosing fans. Augustus NEEDED this win, and got it. Then these scum of judges take it from him. Now he is back to square one yet again. Boxing is about to loose another fan.
This is just terrible. I mean it is obvious I'm a Augustus fan. And I'll admit on the fights he has actually lost. But I get tired of seeing this crap. I'm really going to make a decision if I should keep watching this ****. One bad decision out of even 20 still makes it terrible and not worth watching, because even if they win they still do not get credit. Now Augustus will have to work is way back up AGAIN to get a shot at another prospect in his home town, and probably get another home town decision yet again.
I quit watching boxing for 3 years because of the bull**** decisions, I'm about to give it up again.Last edited by Trevbutler; 11-08-2008, 10:55 PM. -
i had it even 4-4. but in all fairness. its very differcult to train for a guy like augustus for 2weeks. gato was suppose to fight gavin reese, he broke his nose pulled out of the fight. then rodriquez who moved from LW to Jrwelter he pulls out. then here comes the drunken master a record that is misleading probably the best gate keeper in the last 20 yrs. look at cotto vs torres. torres was 2 weeks notice guy and look wa happen.
so i have to give the benifit of the doubt.Comment

I had it 6-2 Augustus. He clearly won the fight. The entire HBO crew thought he won the fight. IT's sad that this keeps happening to the man.Comment

Props to the HBO crew at least for saying Augustus won the fight fair and square. But god bless teddy atlas because he would have let it be known better. Like him or hate him teddy calls the judges out extremely well in situations like this.Comment

I though that maybe it couldn't happen in New York, but I guess hometown decisions are universal. It makes business sense, I guess.Comment

you are right man, Augustus won this fight fair and square. I hate seeing stuff like this too, boxing this days is just corrupted. Gato was even surprised that he won.Comment
